When someone closeby dies

This week I was confronted with the death of a good friend who is also my closest neighbor. Suddenly he is no longer there.

Although a few days ago, I think about it all day. Good people are not many, but this man was exemplary. Every week he brought grocery stamps for my daughter for some kind of saving action.

The stamps were only one small part, he naturally wanted to have a conversation with me at the dinner table with a delicious cup of coffee. Socializing with the neighbor was always fun. His down-to-earth view of the world was liberating for me. Together we were on the same wavelength.

Helpful at all times

Transport broken? He was ready to help. A job at home? He came to help with his tools. Would my daughter eat pea soup, one day later he came to report that he had a 10 liter pan full of pea soup for that little girl. Every day he gave the birds food, they still come every day but there is nothing left.

When he smelled the bbq, he just came to look outside ... to see if there was a raw hamburger left for him (yes, he preferred his hamburger raw and his white wine full of ice cubes). I always said, do you want to sit in the garden with us? And before I had finished speaking, he was already sitting on the couch.

He also wanted to watch with Formula 1 matches on TV. Not because he thought the sport was so fantastic, but because he wanted to be among the people.

So I can continue for a while.

I miss him

A beloved person left the earth, but is now in my heart.
