How much sleep do you get?
When I was just a kid my father told me every hour of sleep before midnight counts double towards your totall sleeping time.
Always tired
Because I feel exhausted most of the time I started a little investigation of my own and searched the internet for what is considered a healthy amount of sleep each night.
What I discovered
While searching for a rather easy to find advice for an adult, on a sidenote I also discovered that poor sleep can also lead to obesity. As a matter of fact, I struggle with overweight for quite some time. I know I like to live kind of a sedative life when it comes to sport or moving a lot. But when it comes to eating, well, let's say comparing my eating habits to friends or relatives almost everyone tells me how is it possible for you to be this big when you eat such little food compared to others?!
So, the consensus is to at least sleep for at least 7 - 9 hours a night. During sleep, your body is recovering and boosts your metabolism. It is almost the last thing I have not tried to do to lose weight. So last week I started to go to bed 1 hour earlier than I was used to. That gave me already a 7-hour sleep every night last week. This week I am aiming for 8 hours of sleep every night. This way I am hoping to feel more energetic and perhaps I can also notice some change in my weight.
I will keep you posted about my findings but I sure do hope this is the key for me to start losing some.
What amount of sleep do you, fellow Steemians, get on average each night? Let me know.
Fellow Steemians, have the best day! And don't forget, Life is for living!
Alright man! Sleep! No more late posting for a while.😔
I think it varies greatly from person to person, but I used to think it was fine to only sleep 4-5 hours a night. But once I started to do cardio exercise my sleeping has improved greatly which = all around better health.
So I should try to do some cardio exercises on top of more sleep? RIght?
Anywhere between 5-8 I reckon. My sleep has been on and off for years. Seasons, booze, smoke, food, hours in front of a computer screen all play a part in a good/bad nights sleep.
What works for me is vitamin D3 in the winter, and plenty of sun in the summer.
A beer in the evening helps, and perhaps a smoke if you are that way inclined - these are only a temporary fix though!
Sleep, I'm happy with 7, can live of 6, and rarely get 8 these days (I'm 39).
Thank you for the insight. I am in my early 40's and I just feel it is getting more important to get more sleep.
Too right. Good for metabolism, testosterone and general well being is this sleep business.
Exercise will help, meat in the evening not great (Stay away from the green egg!), and occasionally i'll have a 1mg melatonin at bedtime which helps a bit too.
Good luck man!
Lol you already read my posts about my Green Egg hobby.. I make sure I follow your tips. Did not know sleeping is such a huge issue relating to your health. I always knew it was a bit related though but not this much. And I try to eat my meat earlier from now on
Good luck man :)
Excited to see what happens, will be keeping an eye out for your future posts :)
