This is an Austin J40 Pedal car with special body.
These cars were built in a government funded factory in Wales on a not for profit basis to provide employment and rehabilitation for up to 250 injured Welsh miners.
The car is a replica of a 1948 Austin A 40 and actually uses the panel off cuts from the Austin Car factory to make the car.
It was £27 + £6 tax new which was about 3 weeks’ wages at the time.
32,000 were made between 1950 and 1971 and shipped worldwide.
They currently sell for over £3000.
They featured.
• Adjustable pedal reach and provided drive through the right hand wheel only to provide a differential action.
• They had a two position adjustable hand brake onto asbestos lines brakes.
• They even came with removable steel wheels fitted with pneumatic tyres.
• Fitted under the bonnet is a dummy O.H.V engine with spark plugs and leads.
• Top quality chrome bumpers and the paint finish was equivalent to the production car.
• Electric horn and headlights.
Weight was 95Ibs or 43Kg.
That is just awsome! Would be great to stick a lawnmover motor in it :) @originalworks
