My dad
My dad was 93 years old yesterday.
He was born in 1923 in Pinxton Derbyshire England.

Earliest photo I have about of him just before starting school in 1928.
Started work when he was 14 in 1937 picking stones and Bats (mudstone) off the picking belts at the local coal mine. Brookhill Colliery in Pinxton Derbyshire England.
In 1938 after a cold winter he asked to work underground
1939 he listened to the start of the Second World War on the wireless
He joined the local defence volunteers which changed into the home guard during the war.

About 1942, out with the lads. My dad is top left.
1945/6 he enjoyed going to local dance venues where he met my mam.
1947 he got married to Nora Hardwick from Ripley
1949 and my sister was born followed not so closely by me in 1962.
1964 still working at the pit but now in the lamproom he started selling toys and hats on the local markets.
1969 he watched with me and my mam as the first man landed on the moon through the radio telescope at Jodrell Bank.
He also moved pits twice in 1969 from Brookhill to first Langton and then Newstead Collieries
He then finished at the mines and continued with his business on the markets finally retiring in 1996
He has seen a lot of changes in his life and is enjoying the iPad which keeps him in touch via FB and Skype with his family.

What a great tribute. Happy birthday to your father!
Thanks Eric.
Excellenty photos, I love old dad photos in the forties and fifties, they always look so cool!
Everyone was so smart dressing. They did look older I think although black and white photos don't help.
your dad is on the net so cool
The iPad is the best thing he has. I just need to show him steemit with a direct link now FB are blocking us.
Happy Birthday to your father!!! casually I made a post today about me and my kid... I would love seeing my kid doing the same as you in the future, means I was a very good father :) Thanks for sharing
It's great to still have the opportunity to still have both parents to do things like this
Thanks
Fantastic photos! My dad tells me stories about the moon landing as well when he was a boy. It must have been an amazing thing to witness in 1969. Congratulations to your dad.
I was only 7 but remember it very well. I did ask my Mam a few years ago about how we got tickets. She just said 'tickets' we just walked in and sat down, no one asked. We gate crashed the biggest event of the twentieth century.
