Carnaval Fun

Bingo and frozen T-shirts. That’s how the morning started for us today on Friday, February 2, 2018. It is Carnaval here at my school in Prince Rupert, British Columbia and the students are all rotating through different games and activities around the building. I am leaving my class and the students of another teacher through the rotation this morning.

We started with bingo in the slightly grumpy bingo caller. Didn’t matter though, the kids had a lot of fun and got three games out of our time. Two students from the other class and one of mine one prices didn’t matter though, the kids had a lot of fun and got three games out of our time. Two students from the other class and one of mine won prizes.

Next up, frozen T-shirts. Divided into groups, the Padawans had to heat up and untie a frozen T-shirt. They had to create friction to warm up the T-shirts and spent the time trying various different ways to create friction and, well, get the t-shirts to open. No group got them open, but they had a lot of fun trying. They ended the session with hot chocolate.

We followed this up with puppet making where everyone was tasked with making Bonhomme paper bag puppets which was attacked with gusto (I said “gusto,” wow).

The morning ended with canoe racing in the gym, the students running an obstacle course in school-made canoes.

This afternoon, they’ll be square-dancing, playing hockey and ice-fishing but I won’t be with them, I’m manning the frozen t-shirt station for the afternoon.
