Don't Mess with Karma - Macro Photography

This is an image of some tiny flowers that I have been wanting to photograph for a couple weeks.

These are flowers that grow in a flower bed at our church. I have been reluctant to pick them because, well I don't need any bad mojo from stealing from the Big Guy. I went against my daughter's advice and jacked them anyways for today's Macro Monday.

My vision was to have a very soft, over exposed image. Something you would see in a cheesy picture frame at the store. To create that soft look, I used a very shallow depth of field with my macro lens. I then used a high powered strobe, trying to blow out all the color of the dark purple flower petals.

The drive over in my car and the high heat from the strobe didn't make this a long lasting subject. As I was shooting, the flower started to wilt and droop. I had to continually refocus and recompose the image, which can get very frustrating in macro. This should have been easy but it was a lot harder compared to other more complicated studio projects I've done in the past.

Here it is and let me know what you think. It looks ok but something just feels missing to me. Maybe I should have listened to my daughter's better judgement. Anyways, time's up and I've thrown in the towel for this Macro Monday. I hope you guys like it.

I like it, the colour is gorgeous :)

Hi @karenb54, thank you I am happy you liked it. Cheers.

Hi @runrudy, you are welcome :)

I like that it looks like long pink talons. The fact that the subject is so small is pretty remarkable but I have to admit, I think it's missing more... pop? Like there needs to be some kind of black or maybe just some deep purple to better outline it? Hmm... hard to explain/describe.
@runrudy, did you get a chance to see the dragonfly I drew using your macro photo as my muse?

Hey @merej99, first thanks for the feedback. I agree, there is just something about this picture it needs something. I give up.

Anyways, I have been thinking about you since you asked me about using an image. I was thinking the other day, when is she going to do it? Then you just said you did it. What, so I went back through your feed and for some reason I missed it. Then I looked and I did like it the post at some point, I must have had a brain fart because I would have totally commented and resteemed it immediately. It is so late but I'm still resteeming that f*cker. That was really awesome. Great job and thank you for your kind words about my work. XOXO Rudy

haha. I'm not done with you yet. There are a few more of your photos that I've been eyeballing...just wish I was more talented! ;)
