SteemHunt Review - Discover Cool Products Get Rewards
INTRODUCTION
We are living in an age where new, groundbreaking, technologically advanced products come out every day. So much so that it's incrementally difficult to find out and learn about them. This is where Steemhunt and its product hunters come in to save the day and bring to the forefront the newest and coolest products to date. Hence a digital library of new and interesting products is created and product hunters are paid for their work in a cryptocurrency called STEEM.
REVIEW
For browsing purposes using Steemhunt is a pretty straight forward process. Navigate through the right part of the page by scrolling up or down and when you find a product you are interested in, just click on the title and it will appear in the left portion of the page where you can find out more details about the product. To view the official website of your desired product, simply click the "CHECK IT OUT" button and it will open it up for you in a new tab.
Scrolling down the product page, you will notice a dollar amount which represents how much rewards in form of cryptocurrency STEEM the hunter of that product has earned for his publication. Additionally, you will find quite a lot of comments by community members and other hunters with their perspective on the product, giving supplementary feedback and some much-needed further insight.
If you want to interact with Steemhunt by offering your opinion about certain products or you want to become a hunter yourself and earn STEEM rewards, you will need to sign up for a Steem account. That's a process that might take up to two weeks to complete if going through Steemit to create it for free, but it can be done in an instance through SteemNinja for just 2.5$.
NOTE: When you get your account, with it comes a set of three keys which are used to access posting/upvoting authority, transactions and memos. DO NOT lose these keys because being a decentralized blockchain, no one is storing your keys, nor can they be recovered or reset if you lose them. Store them in a safe place, preferably offline and in multiple copies for safety purposes.
Once you have your Steem account set up and your keys saved in a safe place, accessing Steemhunt is as simple as clicking the "Login" button in the top right corner which will redirect you to a trusted service SteemConnect. Now it's just a matter of entering your Steem username and your "ACTIVE KEY".
HOW TO HUNT
Before you start writing about a product, make sure that it hasn't already been hunted down by someone else in the past, as you are only eligible for rewards when reviewing new products that haven't been posted yet on Steemhunt. This can easily be done simply by performing a search that can be accessed in the top right corner of the page.
Once you have made sure your product of choice hasn't already been hunted down, you can start working on your first product review. It's a very straightforward process initiated by clicking the plus sign in the top right corner, left of your profile image. This will redirect you to the posting part of Steemhunt where you will be able to present the product you found to be interesting and worthy of writing about.
The information you will have to provide is:
- Product link
- Name of the product
- Short description
- Images
- Hunter's comment
- Tags
Make sure that the information you provide is genuine, unbiased and informative. Proofread your article to confirm no typos slipped through and you are ready to publish your first product review! Click the "POST NOW" located in the bottom right corner of the page and you are done.
A community of hunters and enthusiasts will review your publication and upvote it based on their perceived quality/value. If your hunt gets enough upvotes and your User Score is high enough, you will be rewarded with an upvote by @steemhunt. User Score is derived from the amount of HUNT tokens you hold in your wallet and the total amount of your 30-day activity divided by the overall amount of tokens held by other users and their activity.
NOTE: Your 30-day activity is based on 4 subcategories - credibility (trustworthiness of the account), activity (how active in Steemhunt), curation (upvoting in an adding-value way), and hunter (valuable hunts/comments the user has posted).
Upvotes received on your post are paid out in form of STEEM to your account after 7 days and you can then either power it up to increase your influence on the platform or sell for bitcoin and then cash out in your native currency. This can easily be done on Steemit by accessing your wallet, clicking on the amount of STEEM you have and choosing the sell option.
This will redirect you to Blocktrades where in a few simple steps you are able to sell your STEEM for Bitcoin or a couple other cryptocurrencies.
Enter the amount you wish to sell and chose the cryptocurrency you wish to receive. Additionally, you will have to enter your wallet address and click "get deposit address". You will be given an address and a memo code which you will need to enter in the next step. Now just go back to your Steem wallet and send the desired amount of STEEM to @blocktrades with the memo you received.
In a couple of minutes, you will receive the cryptocurrency of your choice in your wallet from which you can then use it for whatever purpose you wish.
That's all there is to it!
Review products to get paid in cryptocurrency is a reality which I can attest for as I have already hunted a couple of cool products before and was lucky enough to be upvoted by @steemhunt and so were many others who spent their time hunting for cool, new products and gadgets. If you want to find out more about Steemhunt that I didn't cover in this post, join their discord channel where you will be greeted by a thriving community of product hunters and crypto enthusiasts ready to help you out in your journey to becoming a hunter yourself!
Things that Steemhunt has done right
User-experience is at the forefront of their intentions and development which shows in their ever-evolving platform. They made it so that it's very easy to use with a minimum learning curve for new users to come in and start interacting with it. The design is clean, simple to use and navigate around. Posts are easy to find, read, information is neatly displayed to end users and overall I really enjoy how the site looks and feels which makes spending time on Steemhunt very enjoyable.
It serves as a great gateway into the crypto space for even the most technically-inept users as the learning curve is almost non-existent. Apart from having to save Steem's lengthy set of keys and learning about which one is used for what purpose, I would say that Steemhunt is about as easy to use as any centralized social media platform.
Incentivizing curation of product reviews by rewarding users who do so is a great move and so is incentivizing sharing reviews on social media websites. It's a neat way to reward curators and bring additional exposure and traffic to Steemhunt.
Things that Steemhunt can improve upon
Rewarding newcomers. If upvotes from @steemhunt are partially determined by user score, most newcomers will have a hard time obtaining it. Consequently, the retention rate of new users who come for the rewards might be lower than it could be.
Hunters should be required to input more information about the products they review. Most product reviews I see nowadays are vaguely described and end-users are bound to get off Steemhuhnt for more information about desired products. While that might have been the intention, I think that it would be much better to have additional information on Steemhunt so that end users don't have to leave it as often as they do now.
The last thing I find missing on Steemhunt is a link to Steem. Whether it's to Steemit, busy, steempeak or wherein, I don't really care, but users should be able to jump from Steemhunt to a Steem front-end where they can access their wallet and claim rewards.
Conclusion and personal rating
Overall, using Steemhunt is a fun experience, both for contributors and those who just like browsing new, cool products and gadgets. It's filling a gap in the Steem ecosystem and use-case that would otherwise be left unfulfilled. The team behind Steemhunt is constantly improving upon what they have already built to bring better user-experience and further advance their platform. I like what they are doing, how they are doing it and what they achieved so far. They show a great deal of determination, professionalism and enthusiasm for both their platform and the Steem blockchain. I admire their efforts and welcome any future development as I'm confident it will bring Steemhunt to the next level.
My personal rating for Steemhunt is a well deserved one of 5/5 stars. Great work team and keep pushing on!
