Inktober is HERE! Get Your Pens!
Let the Inking Begin!
I am really excited. I actually remembered from day one and got ahead of the game. Granted, I didn't post yesterday. I am going to try my hardest to do it. For some reason, posting each day is difficult... but I need to get back in the swing of things.
So, right off the bat, this is the drawing I did specifically for #inktober2017 - TO WILL is a simple pen drawing on lined paper. Not fancy, but it fit the word SWIFT, which is the prompt for the day.
FIRE and ELEMENTS
In magickal or occult practices like alchemy, the elements represent different aspects of humanity and come together in the pentagram with spirit to form one that is perfect whole and complete. FIRE is the element that creates swift change, motivates the soul and brings action to a boil. I thought of it first and drew this. The upward triangle is the representation of the element.
I thought about it and realized that SWIFT in TAROT is actually the combination of Gemini and Sagitarrius. Mutable fire and air combined and you get the card as represented in the Crowley deck. Being the Sagitarrius counterpart to @art.gaming.magic who is a Gemini, I felt that perhaps I needed to add to this. That meant I needed to draw air as well.
One thing I love about Steem, the whole community of artists, creative writers and general “artsy” types are always posting really cool stuff. I heard about Inktober a few years ago, but I won’t lie, October for me – is really about stressing out about the following month, NaNoWriMo. That is where I spend my time every year. I go and I type and I still have yet to FINISH. Last year I got SO CLOSE! This year, I am trying again come November 1… but I am not going to worry about it. I have a concept in mind and I am waiting to write it or plan it or plot it. But I have an idea, which I won’t lie, is more than I usually have.
Now to Keep My Mind in the Present
How does one not freak about writing a novel in a month? They do something else. For that reason, I was thrilled to see this post by @rensoul17 and this one from @emptyintentions.
Have You Heard of Inktober?
Inktober is an artist “challenge” where you draw, rather, ink one thing for each day of October. You then are supposed to post it, hashtag it with the appropriate words such as inktober2017 and spread the art around It is a great way to challenge yourself as an artist, if you’re in a rut. It is also a good way to get back into art or explore your own artistic tendencies.
Follow the Prompt List
This concept, developed by Jake Parker, isn’t just about inking or drawing, it is about being responsible with your art, taking part in a daily habit of artting and in turn should promote more artistry from all that participate.
There is a supplied prompt list too, which makes it easy to know what to ink. You don’t have to think, you just have to draw.
