New Gridcoin Poll: Developer Compensation Needs Discussion

in #gridcoin8 years ago

As the title says, a new poll was released today. The context is that another poll is asking whether developer pay should be doubled from $30 to $60/hr, a poll which was announced only at https://cryptocurrencytalk.com/topic/85404-developer-compensation/?page=5 with no justification provided. This thread contains a little discussion after the poll was posted and the subsequent announcement of this poll to discuss compensation. Please vote.

What is the goal of this poll? Why is it 10 days in duration?

Hi Barton!

If you mean the "developer compensation needs more discussion" poll, that was me. I ended it one day before the 60$ poll ends because obviously it does not make sense to end it afterwards, right?

I just wanted to know if other people think the same as I do, or if it is just my German accountant + controller background.

I think the point of whoever it is was to actually discuss the question before voting about it. I agree that 10 days is a short amount of time tho.

As for what Rufus is doing, he's trying to get people to participate in the discussion.

Below are my 2 cents, actually more like a quarter. :p

If devs are getting paid like they're working in Silicon Valley, they should have tasks assigned and have to justify their pay in a better way then what was described in the last hangout. Basically, if they're payed like they're senior employees at google, they should behave as if they were.

I want to make it clear that I'm not saying they are not behaving like they are working a real job. I'm just saying that salary and proper management have to go hand in hand. Even if someone has to be hired and paid to do that job, it would be worth it.

edit: voting not talking

Very well put! I really say we need a change in leadership and Customminer should not be our " leader " he is a condescending uppity punk and sorry but jrgringo stepped on the scene and just up and acts like he is the leader BUT we are ALL equal in this open source open community project but they have their little get along gang of 8 and F the rest of us.. Quez too and we know damn well Rob is someone around and just doesn't associate his name with a nick assuming he would get the hell bugged out of him with direct contact , but his email filters caused our NOW head DEV to hack and screw everyone over " https://github.com/RUB-NDS/Gridcoin-Attacks " and that seems like a really crappy model to follow is hire a Greyhat and pay him $60hr after screwing everyone over already. Yes Thomasb knows his stuff and has helped a lot but there is a right way and a wrong way to do things and he decided to screw the whole team over. Yes the 30k+ GRC was returned but ethics and morals anyone? I have coded and worked on code along with porting to PPC64 and made not 1 cent and we used to get paid to attend the mumble sessions and hell I earned 2600grc just to attend 2 sessions.. It really seems with the low value of GRC $60hr should be 100% that a real Gridcoin Foundation is formed and voted on by the people and we have checks and balances as we do not now its just " i worked 1hr fixing a GUI spelling error BS " and until we have a real foundation Gridcoin is just a cult following the GRC8 Get along high school clique and if you don't fit in you are a peon and are not aloud to contribute when in reality we are all equal except Rob and he has handed the coding over to the community and there are way to many screw ups and they are getting paid for them... That does not sit well with me and leaves a bad taste in my mouth where I think Berkeley needs to cut ties with this joke and create their own reward system and coin. Hell that must mean when we get Pay Per Node setup and compensation for connection rates on full nodes should be $100 a month per every 100 users node hosting , as that is a planned future idea to pay full node hosting. I think the extra foundation kitty could be used in so many other ways , like how gridcoinstats.eu gets 20k GRC quarterly to force new users to use grcpool.org and we need a vote for gridcoin.ch to get at least 5k quarterly if not 10k because its fully open to get new users started and no forcing them into BGB's pocket off the interest in the total GRC held and split up around the pool users seeing as he got paid for 90% code and its not even complete where you can just download off Github , setup apache and mysql or what not and setup your own gridcoin pool and he got paid for it anyways when you have to know how to code in order to actually setup the open-source freely distributed grcpool software that was meant to be plug'n'play. Really makes it seem like you have to shove your nose up till its covered in brown and agree with the forced on us " trusted community members " such as all the @ and + on freenode #gridcoin I trust nobody in this community , we are here to make $$$ and that always means there are people with Alt motives , usually not good ones either.

jamezz, I am sure your comment would make more people think if it was more readable - less heated and better formatted.

At the moment I will just comment on one :

Berkeley needs to cut ties with this joke and create their own reward system and coin.

"Berkeley", the university, can do neither of this. First is simply impossible technically and for the second they don't have the money. hey don't even have money for BOINC maintaining, if I remember right that was cut ~3 years ago.

Rob was a powerhouse coder back in the early days, I know our current devs are trying very hard but they are just trying to juggle a lot at once. I think Rob was able to devote full time hours for a significant time which brought us very much forward. We need someone like Rob that can devote significant hours and also work like a maniac.

Perhaps a bounty based system would also encourage rapid feature development for non core tasks.

But for that the bounties have to be know to possibly interested devs ;)

The short duration may be due to its being the first poll made by its creator.

Thanks for your upvote! Upvoted you!
