Proposed Logo for WebPlot Digitizer
What is WebPlot Digitizer?
WebPlot Digitizer is basically an opensource web-based tool for extracting coordinates from images containing plots, charts, maps and graphs, which is a useful analysis tool for scientists and engineers. I personally use this tool to extract data from complex spectra images so I could analyze it numerically. You can visit their website here.
Ideas
To represent the entire purpose of this tool with a single logo, I came up with three symbols: a polynomial curve (for mathematical graphs), a grid (for maps), and a sigma sign which is a well-known symbol for data analysis. These elements provide strong representation providing anyone with ideas of what the tool can do at a first glance.
I then continued by brainstorming ideas by sketching whatever comes to my mind.
Design Results

After several attempts, here are the results of my work. At first I used Cambria Math font which looks friendly to its main users (scientists and engineers) since it is commonly used in scientific papers. However, I decided to use a simpler minimalistic Arial font.
Color Variants
Benefits / Improvements
- The proposed logo clearly represents what this tool is capable of.
- The grid lines shows that the tool can extract data from maps and pixel-based images.
- Polynomial curve represents its multiple functions as a data-analysis tool.
- The polynomial curve resembles an integral sign which represents integration of many useful features.
- The sigma sign is a familiar symbol for scientists and engineer to signify data-analysis.
- Green color is a more appropriate theme for data-analysis tools (such as Microsoft Excel, Apple Numbers, and Google Sheets) so people can clearly recognize and associate this tool with familiar programs.
Mockups
These mockups are screenshots in my PC using the installed icons I've made.
Proof Of Work
Design was created using Adobe Illustrator.

Fixed Thin Lines
To address the moderator's comment on the presence of thin lines which may not work on small size, I just increased the width of the grid lines. Here is the updated version.

Upvoted because i like it. Nice of you to contact the owner of the project!. And i agree that a suggestion should come before a decline of the work.
Thank you for the support. Glad you are actively giving comments regarding disputes in moderation. It helps a lot.
I believe it does, i however can not watch them all or put time in them all. If people would contact me directly i can go more in depth with them. I do need to stress that alot of contributions should not be approved. :D But this one should have been approved from the start.
I noticed some moderators only care about the simplicity of the design and approve everything that doesn't look complicated.
I believe they all handle with the thought that simple is always better. I believe that what a client wants is what they need. Simple is often the best for visibility and to be recognised everywhere. But often a client wants something fancy to put on there store - website - ... . And recognisable is not what they require.
So in essence they should not focus on that. They should focus and creativity and thought behind it.
This moderator has rejected many works (not only mine) that project owner actually likes. In this case, designers would tailor their design based on what this moderator wants instead of what the clients want. This definitely doesn't flow along Utopians main goals. Hope this moderator learns.
I agree with this too @zoef
Glad you agree. Happy to see other agreeing
@ruel.cedeno, I always try to support who contribute to open source project, upvote you.
Thank you for your support. I hope it gets approved.
Your contribution cannot be approved because it does not follow the Utopian Rules.
HARD rules broken:
"Any text or fonts must be converted into shapes or “outlined”."
"A contribution must contain .... benefits of your work to the project owner." - thin lines are kinda blurry in small size

If you compare my icon to Microsoft Excel logo, you'd see the details of the lines in the spreadsheet is much thinner than mine. Please reconsider.
Not ideal in both cases. I would rather compare it to that github icon.
The border surrounding github is quite thin as well. I respect your opinion. I'm just quite surprised Microsoft's graphic designers won't be able to reach Utopian's standards. Thank you for your time.
Hello. The project owner saw my design and he finds it fantastic and would want to change the existing logo with mine. Here's the link

Please reconsider your decision.
Reconsidered, approved.
Thank you for the contribution. It has been approved.

Thanks. It would be much appreciated if next time, a suggestion will be given first before the decision. I will also ask project owner's opinion and include them in the post as much as possible.
Hey @ruel.cedeno I am @utopian-io. I have just upvoted you!
