We are already into week two of the steemit engagement challenge. As usual, I will like to remind users the essence of this challenge is for users to interact with the posts of other users. For my second post, I will be participating in the steem kids challenge which seeks to know the impact technology has had on kids today.

Write an overview of how technology has impacted the world as a whole.

Technology is not new to the world. It has been with us for a very long time. Those who have used it say that it is a time of saver. It relives one of stress and the difficulty of some situations. When we access the length at which technology has impacted our lives we can say that for most of it it has come to make living our lives easier.

Not everyone can love technology, but not everyone can deny using technology even though they might hate it. For instance, the use of a pen is technology. Someone might not like technology and its use cases but that person cannot deny ever using a pen to write. Getting a feather and ink to write on is difficult these days thus it will be better to get a pen which can last you longer than get a feather and ink. Even if the fellow denies using a pen he will surely use paper In writing his data. All this is the use or application of technology.

When we look at this scenario, it proves to us that even though we can hate or deny using some aspects of technology, we cannot do without it. We have all had the chance to benefit from technology including the kids.

Share with us some of the positivity and negativity of technology in kids' lives.

Technology has come to stay and in turn make our lives easier. Let's take a look at some of the positive and negative use of technology to kids.

• Makes learning easier

We cannot look at the advantages of technology on the lives of kids without appreciating the fact that it has helped children in there studies. For instance, in the past children had to go to school before they could be impacted with any kind of knowledge. This days all a child needs is his learning tablet. All he needs to learn is on his tablet, he either listens to it and follow what they are saying or he reads. This makes learning fun and a lot easier for the kids.

• Makes access to information way easier.

Children do not need to go to their parents for any information they need. As long as they have their tablet they can have excess knowledge to learn from. All they have to do is to search on the internet. For most of the kids tablet there are safe searches on them so as soon as the kids wants to search something out of range it is not made available to him.

• It helps parent in parenting

There are situations when a parent has to work. They have to work to cater for the needs of the family. There are some workplaces where the provision of daycare is not made available thus the only way is to leave the child at home. In emergency cases, the child can pick up the phone and call the parent or the police or even the ambulance.

• It helps entertain the kids.

Technology has come not to only make life easier for kids but to also help parents. As soon as some children get their tablets they tend to forget about the real world. They tend to be so amazed by the invention and their parents are less worried about them because they know their kid is always around playing with his device.

As they say, everything comes with an advantage and a disadvantage. Let's look at some of the negative effects of technology on children.

• Children tend to be exposed to explicit content at an early age.

The internet is free to search for what you like. The internet is a good place when you use it for beneficial purposes like education. But sometimes there as sites which contain explicit or nude content which is not good for ghe consumption of the child.

• Social life of the kid stalls.

Getting addicted to a computer screen or a technological device is very easy. Once the kid gets attached he tends to not want to interact with the outside world anymore and this is bad.

• Health complications due to a long time of exposure to the screen or long usage of the device.

Getting glued to the video game is one thing, but when the child does it continuously it has some health problems. Because of his exposure to the screen, he might have sight complications in the future. Sometimes because of his posture, his spine might have problems in future too.

How would you rate the impact of technology in kids' life? Highly positive or negative? Explain.

To be the impact of technology has been negative on kids.

As a kid, I didn't have a lot of exposure to technology. I didn't care about technology. The only thing I remember that I liked doing was using the car and riding my bike(if that can be considered a technological device). With ghe way children are brought up these days, they are brought up to love using tech. They prefer playing with their devices rather than playing with peers.

I must accept that the advantages are there for us to see. But are we getting or seeing what we want our kids to be like when they grow? No. They tend to be people who are always glued to the screen looking for things to watch. They are in turn exposed to things which they wouldn't have seen in normal circumstances.

I like technology but if we can control how our kids are exposed to it I don't think kids' shows use it at all.

Can you have control over the exposure of kids to certain technological products? How?"

Well, I think control depends on the parents from the onset. As I said earlier I am not against the usage of technological devices by kids but how the exposure is done can be controlled.

Firstly, I am of the view that kids need to have fun. As parents, we love our children a lot but we cannot play with them all the time. We do not also want them to be outside playing always thus we get them a device that can keep them busy whilst we attend to our work. But one thing here is that we shouldn't forget the role we have as parents to the kids. The screen time should be controlled. Allow the child to play with the device for a little time. Make him aware of dye negatives and why you are doing that. The child should be made aware that the reason why you are taking that device is for his own good.

Being strict with kids doesn't always help, but communicating with them and understanding their needs is what is important. After all, will you want your child to be afraid of you or be able to come to you when there is a problem?

In a nutshell, we have seen the benefits and negatives of technology on children and I must say that when a parent controls or blends ghe usage of the technological devices with the real world of the child has no complications in future.
