Costco In Japan!

in #japan7 years ago

It's the same as Costco in the US! Or, almost. This big difference is the food selection, the price oh, and you park on the roof!

Like a lot of places in Japan space is a premium so you built vertically. Many malls & bigger shops put their parking lots on the top floors with the shopping floors at street level. Makes sense, just very uncomfortable when there is an earthquake!

Betcha never seen one of these at a Costco. Escalator that holds, think magnetically, your shopping cart. Look honey, no hands! She hates me.

Like I mentioned above, walking into a Costco in Japan is just like walking into one near you. Same layout and probably the same size, same selection of shit you need, beer, meat & cheese! and don't need, CK jeans.

A4 beef baby!

Where it really differs are the basics, lots of meats, dry goods, fruits & veggies, pharmaceuticals and other foods that are sourced locally from Japan. Squid on a stick? Some Korean BBQ flavored ramen chips. Etc.

Your Costco membership is valid in Japan so if you happen to be visiting, smoke a fatty with the locals and get the munchies, bulk snacks, both American & Japanese are available! Oh, did I mention they have pizza & hot dogs just like in the States?! Pepperoni, cheese & supreme, all available for $3 a slice or about $15 for a whole pizza. Same fucking pizza as back in the states.

Some "B" shots that didn't make the cut.

So, that's about it. I've been going to this Costco for about 15 years and the only thing that's really changed is the prices went up and they stopped carrying my refried beans! Muh Mexican food! That's ok though cause a local market carries them! Thanks for reading. Please up vote ya cheap bastards.

That escalator is cool! But I don't think it would be good for my wallet if the Costco here added a second level.

you had me at mexican food and cheap bastard

as a european I never heard of Costco ( I hope I am not exposing myself as the idiot I am now)

As Yoda once said, Oh, you will hear of them, you will.

One of the first wholesale open to the public chains in the US. Convenient if you have a couple of hundred $$ to spend.

cant be bad as long as they have mexican food.

So cool post Upvoted!

Did the beef say Wagyu? And could you tell me price per pound? Thanx!

Yes, A4 Wagyu, about $0.10 a gram. Zoom in on the photo.

That's some nice looking steaks lol :D
Also: Never seen a shopping cart on an escalator before :D

Not sure I would want to smoke a fatty over there! Aren't the drug laws really strict? If I was there I'd stock up on some Pocari Sweat, love that stuff and you can't get anything like it where I am

Strict enough that you probably would never be able to enter the country again, yes.

I like Costco too ! Tokyo e arimasuka? hahaha Good.

I would have loved to have gone to Costco while I was in Tokyo, but I didn't like the idea of riding the subway back home while holding a 48-pack of toilet paper.

(That and the subway tickets would have largely negated the discount versus just buying it from the Donki down the street anyway.)
