Craft Beer Blog #8

Happy Friday and welcome back! It's a beautiful day here in Minneapolis and looks to be an amazing weekend! I stopped at the local liquor store last night and picked up a four pack of beer from a brewery I was familiar with, but I hadn't had this particular beer.

This weeks review is from Toppling Goliath Brewing out of Decorah, IA. I was going to grab their Psuedosue Pale Ale as I have had it before and it is really good! Then I noticed they had an IPA next to it called Golden Nugget. I couldn't pass it up!

Toppling Goliath's website describes Golden Nugget as follows:
"This spectacularly golden, medium bodied IPA was crafted from a winning combination of Golden Promise malt and Nugget hops. Fall in love with the big hop aroma of our Golden Nugget as it mingles with fragrances of citrus and evergreen, followed by a floral sweetness. Tropical fruit flavors entice your taste buds before immediately captivating you with a bold, hop forward taste and a pleasant bitterness in the finish."

If you have been following my other craft beer blogs you already know I am an IPA guy. It is hard for me to find an IPA I don't like and this one is no exception. I tend to like the smoother, citrus IPA's most, but I do need that piney hop bitterness. Golden Nugget nails all of those.

I drank it out of the tall boy can it came in, but always recommend pouring IPA's into tulip glasses. At 6.8% alcohol it fits right in with where an IPA should be. Strong enough to feel, but won't knock you on your ass. IPA's need to have that slight bitterness. Golden Nugget has it, but the flavor doesn't hang around in your mouth very long like many others do. This can be a good or bad thing depending on who you ask. I prefer that flavor to linger a little longer, but that's just me. It wasn't anything that ruined the beer for me.

From what I have read this beer had a pretty decent distribution channel. It can be found all over the country, but pretty sporadic. If you do come across Golden Nugget or Psuedosue do not pass either of those beers up!
