My first comedy show

Me acting grandma

Hello steemians,

This summer i had joined @chanthasam Cambodian comedy group for our Pchum Ben festival party, he is one of the organiser of Khmer culture art group and he is also one of a very talented person in our Cambodians showbiz in Netherland.

I was so excited and nervous because i hadn't performed on the stage for years. I only performed dance on stage since young but comedy show was a whole different thing and new for me. Musically at school, i did a few times but the difference was in musical you dance, sing and acting... And i was not good at singing so i dance most of the time or sing in a group. With comedy show you must entertain the people and make them laugh. So i had a lot of thought in my mind by doing this, i want to find myself again acting in a big crow and this time in front of Khmer people in Netherland, i want to take a new opportunity to figure myself out. Finally i did make a big step and said yes to @chanthasam . And then we formed a group with 4 women and 4 men and we know each other only at Cambodian parties so i know them not personally. Before the show we start to know about each other more and more... and now i've been friends with some of them included @chanthasam and his wife (he was also the one, who wrote the storyline.)

The story that he had wrote had something to do with Pchum Ben festival. The title calls Bon neng Baab, Bon mean empathy person, upright person who's doing good deed and baab mean negatief not a good person, doing bad things in life and gets bad karma back... Each ghost had his own storyline about there life before they are dead and meet the two gods at the gateway, to go further with your spirit/soul, the two gods look in his scroll what you had done in your life and the gods decided which way you will go, heaven or hell. When i was reading this storyline, i was really excited because this had something to do with every person. And in real life a lot of people think only more about himself. And with this story at Pchum Ben it will reminds people to do good deeds.

And my story was about an old lady who had always helping people and she dies because of her old sickness on a natural ways, so she goes to heaven who's decided by the two gods. I was the last ghost spirit of the sixth. And i must figure myself out how to played a grandma and acting in a comedy. Atlast i had figure it out at our comedy training...

A month later we needed a place to practise and we practise it at my sister's home. Because of our work, time and we lives far away from each other we did only practise three times so far before we when on stage. The two last one was at my place. And my husband @sinzzer was also the one who made the pictures and video the moment at our rehearsal.

Pchum Ben festival is one of our important festival from Cambodia, the festival is in october of the month. Depends on the Cambodian buddhist calendar each year. Pchum Ben festival mean ancestors day, paying respect to our ancestor. The celebration is from the Angkorian empire, and it's took three days in Cambodia and in that three days there are buddhist ceremony praying, respect the elders and sending food to our ancestor by chanting prayers to them. In Netherland we can't celebrate like that so we do this in one day. And it also depends on the location where we rent the place. Here in Netherland Pchum Ben was organised by CNV association. And this year, our Pchum Ben was in 3 september 2016. In the morning we had a buddhist rituals by listening to monks praying, offering monks food, gifts, candles. The rituals was till afternoon.

And later the shows were given in the evening like khmerdance, fashion show, the comedy show Bon neng Baab and later Khmer band played with singers till late into the night... Thank you for reading and please follow me.
