TIG welding in my second class.

in #blog7 years ago

Our class continued with TIG welding. TIG welding is one of the slowest welding processes available, and I love it. With other welding there is sparks or slag and noise, but with TIG there's none of that. Well next to none of that.

TIG is a nice slow process that that can be used with or without filler metal. We started off making lines without filler metal.

We then continued I do in lap joints using filler metal on occasion. I attempted to get as good as I could without filler metal before I decided to add another variable. When I did Adam filler metal using the left hand while the right hand holds the torch and my foot controls the pedal I actually found it to be a fairly simple process and less demanding than I thought it would be.

The TIG welding continued to provide challenges as we press forward with our education. At this point I was considering myself less of a specialized welder and more of a welder in general. My instructor stresses that a welder should know all welding and not just specialize in one field. While having an understanding and usage of stick welding, MIG welding, and now TIG welding I found myself to be in a very good place mentally when it came to welding.

We also had to weld a box together that could hold water. This is a really good test to see if your welds are in fact watertight. I like the way mine turned out, but I like the second one I built better cuz it actually worked.

We also spend a small amount of time with flux core welding. After learning all the other processes I feel that anyone can weld with flux core. The speed of welding from TIG welding to flux core welding was a massive difference however. I felt like I was going from a brisk walk to an all-out sprint.
