Just Another NSFW Video
Sex is knocking on Steemit, whether some steemians like it or not. Being in a very early stage, the future of adult content on the Steemit blockchain is uncertain. Just consider if the first tag of your post is NSFW Steemit will hide it.
There are accounts who post adult content with very poor writing or non at all, copied from random porn sites, in a desperate attempt to catch some upvotes. There are also some real accounts of people who are into publishing erotic content, writing stories or making pictures, who I might say Steemit awarded generously over the past months. Sex sells obviously. Of course, there's also people who are against it, and don't miss the opportunity to flag such posts, for various reasons.
In my opinion this issue can be solved by treating all adult tags just as any regular tag, like Tumblr, Twitter or other social media. If it's something of interest I will follow it, regardless of the tag's content. And my feed is filled with the content only I like and consider important to me. On Steemit I had to use the reverse strategy, so I muted all the users and content which are of no interest to me. As the saying goes: Silence is golden.
This is quite the controversial subject. I don't really know how to tackle this problem myself. A side of me is all for freedom of speech and allowing any content on Steemit.com but another side is worried about the adolescents being exposed to pornography. I would love for my entire family to join Steemit, which includes newphews and nieces, and I would consider that a critical point.
If a certain blog gets censored on Steemit.com it doesn't mean it is not on the blockchain. There could be other websites dedicated to blogs tagged with [NSFW].
I have to say, I'm indifferent as long as the post is marked accordingly. If you don't want to view NSFW content don't click on it. You may not always agree with what your neighbor posts on a censorship free platform but you do have the choice to either mute, unfollow or simply not click on the link. The bigger issue I see is the fact that many of these people are posting other peoples works, without permission and getting paid for it. We should treat that content the same way we treat other posts that steal other peoples content and not reward it.
