The more time I spend on Steemit, the less I find myself opening the Trending page. There are so many great authors that get left behind, it's a shame to pass them by just because they don't make hundreds of dollars of a Youtube video they didn't even made. As I'm pushing for more quality content I'm abandoning the Trending page completely.
What are your thoughts? Do you visit the Trending page to find the best posts on Steemit?
I never go to the Trending page anymore. First of all I think that those posts already got enough from the reward pool, whether they are good or not. Secondly, mostly the same authors in Trending page, so why would they need more rewards while they take 1000+ $ daily? I do not want to help these Steemit Millionaires to become Billionaires while so many other good authors get next to nothing. Steemit can only survive when we grow the community. And since money is involved we shall try to better distribute the money, otherwise the community will fall apart and we all have nothing anymore.
I must say, I dont even look at the HOT channel anymore. I general look in my HOME channel, but mostly in NEW channel. BUT, lately I look mostly in a filtered list I've created with Esteem.Life showing me all posts of users with a Rep lower than 50 and payout value lower than some dollars. Next to that I support the creation of the Dutch community by giving them from time to time 100% upvotes on their posts.
You are so right buddy. The same authors are getting paid 2000$+ a day just because their reputation is high lol. I feel like it doesn't matter what post they submit.
It seems like it indeed! Regardless of content, votes are received. I think most orcas do vote for each other, more than before, but it is a feeling I have, not analysed. But when looking at the high payout posts, you generally see the same high SP holder voting for it. That is how it is and we have to deal with it I suppose :)
Basically I'm saying the same thing, but sometimes I prefer to present information in a different way, I know not everybody's on the same page with me. The good news is that once you spend some quality time on Steemit you start to appreciate it for the people who really are steeming it.
It's a shame that the Trending page isn't really trending, rather making the rich richer.
It is what it is, and unfortunately STINC is not taking any actions to start supporting the small SP holders whilst supporting the large SP holders, or at least those who make it all the time to the Trending page. Great to read and understand from you we are on the same page and we both see the issues at Steemit.
The trending page is very static, so I just go there maybe once every 2-3 days. I tend to follow my blog feed so I build up a loyal following and leave comments to those who I follow.
visiting trending page is a terrible idea for curation rewards, lol, you're there way too late, better to go for 'hot' if you have a giant vote and think it might go trending, the smaller your vote is the sooner you have to show up to get anything at all, it's optimal at [30min, $0, 0vote, future payout high] and any deviations from that decrease reward, other than showing up late when all the others are still the same, too early and you sacrifice rewards also
Sometimes, I do open the "Hot" page, but most of the time, I dig for quality content in "New". A remember opening "Hot" a couple of days ago just to find that half of the posts are in Korean.
I almost don't go there. Once a month, maybe. Most of the time I spend on new. Just like you said there are a lot people out there that wait to be discovered. I vote what I like and if i'm impressed, I subscribe to have it in my feed.
There are good posts at trending page too. But yeah a lot of good posts just disappear because the expected Curation reward on them isn t that hight. I think its important to upvote because you like something and not because of curration reward. To keep the community growing. That will let the price of steem increase and long term , everyone will profit more than by curation rewards.
I never visit the trending page, I very rarely visit the hot page, I sometimes visit the new page and I always look at my feed based on the people I have decided to follow already.
I was being sarcastic, and I didn't want to be rude to the newcomers. Ofcourse I didn't follow, but I always check my reader's blogs. Sometimes I come across some really good ones, but rarely.
I know, and I sometime answer very similar. My comment was meant more for the user who placed the comment, so I hope this person comes back to your comment and sees mine as well :) I stop giving them a comment upvote though; Or when I do, I make a statement like: "this is not the way to get followers and votes but this time I still give you an comment upvote". More and more I can laugh about this new trend, I guess I'm accepting it and act without negative emotions when seeing this happening many times a day, from p2p chats with URLs, with I-vote-when-you-first-vote for me and all these too aggressive, intrusive and respect-less way of getting rewards and not working on creating friends and community.

I think this is something many of us are worried about. Sooner or later this will be resolved, I just hope it's for the best.
Indeed, lets see this as 'growing pains' :)
haha well, yeah... there is truth in that. Why not completely hide the trending tab?
It's a good concept having it, but in practice I'm not so sure.

This doesn't stop people trying, apperantly.

It's seems the community is split on this matter, but you are 100% right.

Thanks.
Nice comment, I suppose you did not start following this guy? I find these comments so annoying!
