I am Beautifully Broken by God

"This is the word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD: 2 “Go down to the potter’s house, and there I will give you my message.” 3 So I went down to the potter’s house, and I saw him working at the wheel. 4 But the pot he was shaping from the clay was marred in his hands; so the potter formed it into another pot, shaping it as seemed best to him. 5 Then the word of the LORD came to me. 6 He said, “Can I not do with you, Israel, as this potter does?” declares the LORD. “Like clay in the hand of the potter, so are you in my hand, Israel." - Jeremiah 18:1-6

In the book of Jeremiah chapter 18, God was mentioned as Master Potter. The analogy of the Potter and the clay was powerfully revealing the greatness of our God in molding, shaping our lives in a way He sees it best for his children, for us.

The book of Jeremiah is a prophetic book yet it is also a record of how Israel became so unfaithful with God by committing sins after sins, rebellion after rebellion and disobedience after disobedience with God. It seems that they were intentionally provoking God in anger and show no respect with Him as their living God. So Jeremiah (the crying prophet) prophesied about the impending disaster and tragedy and judgment that the people of Israel will experience soon.

They will be destroyed, they will be ruined, and they will become slaves of other nation. These coming judgments were recorded in chapter 1-17 but on chapter 18, God gave another word with Jeremiah. A different kind of message that will bring wonderful opportunities to the people of Israel to restore once again their broken and ruined life.

So then Jeremiah was ask by God to go to the house of Potter and observe how the Potter will work out the clay in his hands. What Jeremiah observes is an interesting kind of excellent work that will showcase the Potter’s best in molding and creating a perfect master piece out of a dirty mud.

What kind of life does God is able and capable of turning it into a beautiful master piece?

We can ultimately experience God’s best and His life changing power by yielding our life in the truths that Jeremiah 18 is portraying about God as our master potter.

Jeremiah was awe when He saw the Potter repeatedly and patiently molding the clay every time it was broken into his hands.

First, let me say that God is so willing to mold us again

God’s willingness to wait for the right time for you to humbly come upon his mercy is so great. But the process of molding you again cannot be done without breaking you into pieces first by the Lord.

The problem with us now is this—as much as possible we want to remain unbroken like the people of Israel. Every time God will attempt to touch our lives, so he can deal with it in a way He wants it, we’re becoming so sensitive and we easily will take out our shield that we called it pride. So you can start arguing with the Lord, telling:

Oh there is no need for you to waste your time just to mold me. I’m okay can’t you see. I have a great career ahead of me. I have a loving family who always obey what I want and friends who are so supportive with me in every little wrong doing I use and love to do.

But still God is in His throne waiting for you to become willing to let Him break you so He can mold you once again.

Second. Let me say that: We are not too badly broken for God to reshape

God loves us in spite of our imperfections and past mistakes, and He desires to make us beautiful and brand new. No matter how miserable your, He is able to arrange it again in a way that seems best you. Like His people Israel you are not too badly broken for God to be molded again.

Remember what Ephesians 2 verse 10 says:

"For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them."

As old saying goes:

"No Situation in your life that is not redeemable with God."

Let the molding hands of God mold you and made you to a better person that He always wanted you to be.
