What I learned in my 3 Months of Journey on Steemit

in #utopian-io7 years ago (edited)

Today is November 17th. I have been on Steemit for 3 months as I came in on August 16th. It has been quite a learning experience blogging on this Steemit platform, so today it marks a milestone for me. I also want to use this post to share with the newbies on Steemit about what I have learned in this past month so as to encourage fellow Steemians to continue blogging with passion. Hopefully as we share more ideas of what we do, what has worked, what has not worked, we can all improve some quality time on the Steemit platform and bring value to everyone.

In my first 2 months on Steemit, I had to understand what goes on in the platform and how to contribute to them.

Being new on the platform, I spent a lot of time reading posts and commenting and blogging about my travels as that is my great passion.

As time went on, I began to spread out on other platforms like Zappl, Steepshot, Dsound, Busy.org, Dtube, Utopian and contribute my skills to these platforms.

This is exactly what I did in my third month on Steemit. It has been a fun ride because each platorm offers different things for us to contribute to them. So with today's blog, I want to encourage all new comers from Steemit to also use these platforms to widen your contribution. You also get to know new Steemians on these platforms also.

These platforms are all connected to Steemit meaning that when you post on their platforms, your blog posts will also appear on your own Steemit platform too. They are interconnected.

I'll list out for you different platforms and their url links so that you can also sign up with them to share your expertise with them. I'll put them in the order that I signed up with them so that you can see the progress I made on the Steemit it platform. Hopefully this can inspire you to do the same.

1. DSound

You can click onto the following link to sign up with @Dsound.
https://dsound.audio/#/feed

This was the first platform that I joined outside of steemit. You can understand why I love this platform because I can upload my music, my composition, my piano playing onto this platform for others to enjoy. This brings the Steemit platform to come alive with music to entertain them as they read blogging posts.

The process is very easy. You log into their site and you upload your own music there, and quickly those wave files will appear next to your profile picture.

At the moment, some uploaded files have waves and some don't, so you can see that the site is still in the development stage.

You can also come into this site to listen to other people music.

2. Zappl

Here is the link to sign up with @Zappl

https://zappl.com/#!/Home

Zappl is still at its beta stage and it works something similar to Twitter where you are only allowed to key in 240 characters. This means you cannot write a lot on these posts.

You type in your title and the 240 characters there. You can also upload a picture. This will make it look even nicer on Steemit.

Here is my profile page on Zappl.

Right now, I can't find the tab to find the 2 zapples I did for this site.

You can click onto the following links to read my Zapples posts from Steemit.

  1. First Post in Zappl - Zapp 1
  2. Second Post in Zappl - Zappl 2

In the future, I will use more of this site. This is absolutely helpful if you have 'free' tutorials to offer to people like my Zappl 2 there where I offer a free piano course.

3. Busy.org

You can sign in with sign up with @busy.org here.

https://busy.org/

I joined in to test out the site when it was in beta version and love all the work that @fabien and their team do there. They are very professional in their communication with the users. This is definitely a site I recommend for Steemit users so that you have another platform to blog for Steemit.

I find their Editor page very welcoming and user friendly.

You can access to all your Steemit posts from this platform.

4. Utopian Platform

Here is the link for you to sign up with the Utopian Platform.

https://utopian.io/

This is a relatively new platform and I joined it this past month. The platform is still in its evolving stage but the last I heard is that there have been 2000 posts contribution to this site already. The @utopian.io team are working very hard these days, especially there has been a lot of noise going on that need solving.

The beauty of this site is that it allows you to contribute your skills and expertise towards Open Source Projects. Look what you are good at and you can contribute your skill to this site and get rewarded.

My profile page looks like this on this platform.

milestone7.jpg

You have your own profile page there with all the contributions you have put into the site. I also had my share where many of my contributions did not get approved and they do not show up on your profile page. Only those that have been approved are visible.

You can see on the right side that you can link up to your Github Account. I also created a new account with Github so that eventually in the future, I can also contribute more work to Open Source Projects. This is going to require some time as I need to Iearn how to use Github. Right now I am still at the baby stage. Don't worry, someone who is skillful in this area will do a tutorial for us, so we will wait for that tutorial to appear.

But in the meantime, Utopian allows you to contribute by making suggestions, reporting bugs, providing tutorials, doing translations, coding for developers, documentation, copywriting, analyzing data and adverting with visibility.

I only picked a few that I am skillful in and that is translation and creating tutorials.

But whenever I can, that is, when I spot a bug in some Steemit related apps and platforms, I will report to them because it helps the project manager to look into these bugs to fix them. Once in a while, when I have a bright idea, I will make a few suggestions. Other than that, my expertise is mainly in translation and tutorial because as an English teacher, interpereter and writer, I mentor and build up future teachers and translators.

Final Words

That's it! This is what I have done in the last month for Steemit.

It is quite a new experience so I encourage newbies to get involved in the different platforms to get to know the project managers, the team, the users and you will get to know more fellow Steemians to make Steemit platform go far as Steemit platform is still in its beta stage according to @ned.

I have spent some time to document the details and links for these sites for you to sign up easily. Let me know how it goes for you. We do care for the newbies who come in so that they are not so confused and can get into the fun right away.

If you have questions, please comment below.

I think this is a good idea. I haven't really taken the time to look into utopian and zappl doesn't really seem my style, though it seems a decent project.

Seems like new people might be able to get more exposure by connecting with people on discords too...

Yes, discord is another way to get to know other people.

Thank you for the contribution. It has been approved.

Suggestions

  • Work on your followers to increase the votes/rewards. My vote is now primarily based on that, humans rule. Good luck!
  • Wondering why other contributions got more? I introduced a competition factor. My vote is also based on how competitive the category used is.
