Suggest Utopian to Create a Web Page of Staff Picked Posts

Contribution to Utopian Open Source Project

I want to suggest to Utopian Team to create a page on the their website of "Staff Picked Posts" so that all users can see high quality samples to follow as they make their contributions.

Components

Utopian is an open source economy whereby users can contribute to their favorite open source projects to earn rewards. In order to encourage new comers to contribute in high quality as well as to empower users to increase more superior contributions, I have the following proposals to make.

Proposals

I propose that a web-page be made to help users see samples of high quality contributions. How can this be executed?

• By setting up a website page to show all the high-quality contribution posts picked by the Utopian staff and community managers.

• In this way, all users can click on these posts to get a good idea of how they can prepare their contribution post that are well thought out with care.

• When there are no samples for users to see, many people do not have the skills to know how to plan and write up posts with high quality. With a high standard set in front of them, everyone should aim for the highest quality to get their posts picked by Udemy staff. Whether they get picked or not is another matter, but the aim should be the top for everyone.

Mock Up Examples

Step 1

Create a Drop down menu under "Contributions" on the home page

• Under Contributions, create a drop down menu: Staff PIcked
• Users can then click on this tab to go to the following page on the website

Step 2

Staff-Picked Page

• Create a Staff Picked website page : https://join.utopian.io/staffpick/
• On this new page, all 12 categories are listed
• Each of these categories need to be clickable with hyperlinks

• when users come to this page, they can click on any of these categories to find high quality contribution posts
• if they work on 'bug hunting', they can click on 'bug hunting' to see how great contributors had contributed in the 'bug hunting' category.

Step 3

Let's use Bug Hunting as an example

• Recently there is a "Bug Hunting" post that got staff picked. I know about it because I saw it on the moderation spread sheet. It would be great if all users, especially those who do bug hunting contributions to take a look at this staff-picked post as a sample for them to follow.

• So far there is only one 'staff-picked' post in bug hunting that I know of. So his post would appear on the web-site page for all users to see.

• And if there are more of these 'staff-picked' posts on bug-hunting, then they will appear on this page one by one.

• In this way, new users and current users can come to this page to learn how to write their contributions in high quality for bugs hunting

Benefits

It is only in the last couple of weeks that our moderating work is done on spread sheets that I actually see which posts got picked by the staff. I didn't even realize I got picked until I saw the spread sheet. I am sure the whole idea behind the "staff picked posts" is to help not only the user himself to reach high quality, but also for other users to reach to the same or higher standard.

Since the curation had already been done by Utopian team and community managers, It would be good if this information can be made known to all users on the website. In this way, there are excellent samples for users to follow.

Also for new users, when they see templates for each category, they are not sure what to include in their posting under the different headings. Many just keep contributing mediocre posts by habit. We need to find ways to get them out of this vicious cycle.

So if they see how high quality contributors create their posts, this will empower them to spend time to create high quality posts with the templates given to them.

Conclusion

People learn quickly by examples and demos. I believe if this is implemented, there will be more professionally high quality contributions in Utopian.
