Steepshot - Create an active counter in the Characters Limitation

Components

The steepshot website is presently in alpha stage. It is a platform where you are allowed to upload your beautiful photos for people to look at. On the Editor page, it tells us how many characters we are allowed to put in the Description area. I have a suggestion in this technical area to make it easier for users as they type in their description.

Proposal

Since I am one of those who love posting via Steepshot and I am sure there are many like me, I want to to propose to the Project Owner this technical l feature that will enhance the Steepshot website:

• The description is limited to 2048 characters
• Usually when we start typing there, it doesn't show how many characters we have put in
• We want to make the most of the description area as possible, so sometimes we might exceed the number of characters and when that happens, the description is gone
• So I want to propose an active counter at the 2048 characters
• This means that as we type in our description, the counter will decrease as each word is keyed in
• The counter then can show that we are moving closer and closer to the limit of characters
• And when it hits zero, we can go back and delete the characters so that we don't exceed the number of characters in order to post
• In this way, we can make good use of the description area as Steepshot wants us to have

Mockups / Examples

1. The present editor page

• Right now, the editor page has the 2048 characters limit there

2. I suggest to put in a counter tab

• I suggest a Counter tab can be put right next to the Character limitation
• In this way, we can see the Counter Tab with the numbers moving

3. An Activated Counter Tab that changes numbers

• this counter tab needs to be an activated counter tab with numbers moving
• i n this way, as we type, the numbers go down
• for each character that it types, the numbers move
• in this way, we have a clear idea, how many characters are left as we write our descriptions
• we then won't lose our description if we go beyond the 2048 characters
• if we see that there are still 1000 characters we can still keep on typing
• this will ease our frustrations to go outside the website to check our characters limit

I will try to show you a mock up example of this but technically, it should just show in the Counter Tab there with the numbers decreasing there.

The above rectangle with the numbers should be showing in the active counter tab as the numbers decrease down to zero.

Benefits

• lots of benefits here for users as we key in our description
• with the counter characters decreasing, we can space and know how much we can write
• we do not need to have the anxiety that we go beyond the limit
• we don't have to head out of the steepshot site to check the number of characters
• in this way, we can take advantage of the number of spaces that we are allowed to use in the description area
