# 450 - $2 CAD Coins
The first Canadian $2 coin was issued in 1996 to replace the $2 bank note which was then withdrawn from circulation.
In 1997 the $2 coin was added to the Proof Set.
I will show you three of these coins. They were not ment for circulation because they are made of silver.
All the reverses have the same design, the difference is on the obverse.
All of them weight 8.83g with 92.5% silver purity and Proof finish.
The first is a 2002 $2 CAD. It commemorates the 50th Anniversary of the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II.
Its mintage was 65,316 units.
The second is a 2005 $2 CAD. The obverse was the same from 2004-2006, without Mint logo.
Its mintage was 63,562 units.
The third is a 2010 $2 CAD. The obverse was the same from 2007-2011, with Mint logo.
Its mintage was 32,342 units.

I believe I have a Proof Cupro Nickel version of the first year 1987 that came with a Crisp $2 banknote with a Replacement serial number. Wished my Father got the Silver version, what can I say? I was not even 4 years old at the time.
The Proof version of the first year (1996) was Nickel ring with Bronze core.

Now those are some snazzy toonies
🤩👍👍
They are silver, beautiful and shinny. In a few days I will show some "snazzy" half-dollars that I know you will love.

The Bear is the mascot of California... so you can I understand why I love those 3 coins. They must be very beautiful in person. Is the coin gilded, like the US Presidential Dollars?
Not gilded. They are sterling silver, with gold-plated core.

They are very nice looking coins mate, cheers.
The difference between these silver coins above and the ones that were made to circulate is that the material is a bi-metallic brass plated aluminium-bronze center in nickel plated steel. The size is the same, but the weight of the circulating ones is 6.92g. Cheers.

The obverses of the circulating coins from 2012-2019 are the same, a little different than those shown above.
