# 259 - National Community Service
Continuing the Modern Commemoratives Dollar series, we will present you today the 1996-S "National Community Service" graded by PCGS MS70.
All coins of this series weight 26.73g with 90% silver purity. They were issued in Proof and Brilliant Uncirculated finish.
They will be presented in the order they were minted.
This coin was issued to honor the spirit of volunteerism in the United States.
The obverse of the coin was based on a medal designed by Augustus Saint Gaudens for the Women’s Auxiliary of the Massachusetts Civil Service Reform Association. It was adapted by Thomas D. Rogers.
The reverse was designed by William C. Cousins. It features the words “Service For America” surrounded by a wreath.
A total of 23,500 coins were minted in San Francisco. The issue price was U$32.00. The actual price is around U$250.00 in this grade.

Another coin with a simple design on the obverse, which I like. I don't like the many and only letters on the reverse.
The reverse should have a different design, not only letters. Maybe something more about the National Community Service.
