in #steemsilvergold8 years ago (edited)

Continuing the Modern Commemoratives Dollar series, we will present you today the 1996-D "Olympic High Jump" graded by PCGS MS70.

All coins of this series weight 26.73g with 90% silver purity. They were issued in Proof and Brilliant Uncirculated finish.

They will be presented in the order they were minted.

This coin was issued as part of an ambitious range of commemorative coins issued for the XXVI Olympiad Summer Games held in Atlanta, Georgia.

The obverse of the coin features an athlete executing a high jump with the Fosbury Flop technique.

The reverse features a design used in common for all of the 1996 Olympic Silver Dollars issued, a modernistic Olympic torch. The base of the torch is created with the number “100” representing the centennial and the Olympic logo.

You are the "commemorative man". How many do you have?

I have been collecting commemoratives for more than 40 years. I never counted, but I have several hundreds of them.

Thank you very much for the upvote.

I know you buy a lot of commemorative coins, but are there one's that you like the best?

I have been collecting commemoratives for more than 40 years. It is difficult to choose a favorite. It could be the most expensive one that I have, a Iowa Half Dollar MS68, valued around $3,000.00.

Wow! How do you know which ones are a good buy/good investment or do you just buy the one's you like?

Commemoratives usually come in series, like the American Old Commemoratives, the American Modern Dollar Commemoratives, the American Modern Half Dollars Commemoratives, etc. As a collector, I buy all the coins of the series I collect, that I can afford at the highest grade.
