# 226 - Columbus Half Dollar
Continuing the Modern Commemoratives Half Dollar series, we will present you today the 1992-S "Columbus" graded by PCGS PR70 DCAM.
All coins of this series weight 11.34g with 91.67% copper and 8.33% nickel. They were issued in Proof and Brilliant Uncirculated finish.
They will be presented in the order they were minted.
This coin was minted to commemorate the 500th anniversary of the discovery of America by Christopher Columbus.
The obverse of the coin features Christopher Columbus at landfall. Shown in the background is the Santa Maria and a smaller ship with the crew disembarking.
The reverse of the coin features the thee ships of Columbus’ voyage under sail, known as the Santa Maria, Pinta and Nina.
A total of 390,154 coins were minted in San Francisco. The issue price was U$9.50. The actual price is around U$100.00 in this grade.

While the round is pretty ( 👍👍) it makes me wonder if one of the private mints has ever published a 'realistic' Columbus round...
Kinda like those debt slavery rounds I've seen on phelimints.
