Upturn for copper?

From a professional point of view, the prize of copper is one of my interests.

I see that copper is in some kind of upcycle, specially if you look at the (future) demand side of the market.

With all the hightech we are surrounding ourselves, all infrastructural plan that varios countries hold to reach all the climate goals. For most of this, copper is needed as a ground material.

Today I found this nice article on Streewise teports by Clyve Maund, a technical anslyst.

He is giving his perspective on the copper market for the mid and longer term. For people who are interested in this metal it is nice to read.

I like the way you come with different angles and even new metals I hadn’t thought of.
Yes, there are people stealing copper wires in Spain, mostly they come from Rumania but also some locals, it must be worth the work of doing it. And the danger of getting caught.

At $3 a pound, it would be pretty hard to move around in a SHTF scenario, I's stick to the futures market or maybe they have an ETF for copper.

It might be a good time to get some copper bars.What do you think about that?Does it take up to much space and is it hard too sell so you stick with the stocks?

I find that a difficult question. With present prices, stacking a large value of copper (let’s say $10.000) may gives you some serious storage issues. With my example you have to store around 300 bars of 10 kg each.
Selling copper as an individual is not so easy. Large cable companies only buy from the coppermills becsuse they desire a certain quality grade. Of course you can sell it to a metal scrapyard company, but that will give only “scrap prices”.
But I know there are some people who buy copper wire and plates from old indusrial sites and installations against a kind of demolition fee, they strip the wires and then either sell the copper for a higher price as “clean” copper to a scrap metal company, or the melt the copper into bars and store them and wait for markets to pick up. But you have to be aware of serius storage issues.
