Happy Thanksgiving, Gobble, Gobble
I know it's only a holiday in the United States today and the rest of you out there are just going about your regular day. Reduced down to it's most basic form, it's my favorite holiday since it's really just a harvest festival. We just do it a month too late for some weird reason.
It doesn't need to be wrapped in all that nonsense about pilgrims and such. I can do away with those myths. But it's rare to have large gatherings to feast anymore.
I don't do the family thing. Most of my family goes to an in-law's house anyway. Besides, I had so many bad memories of my dysfunctional extended family Thanksgiving dinners while growing up that I actually used to hate the holiday. I used to work at a gas station and would volunteer to work the holiday every year just to get out of the family dinner.
It wasn't until I started going to a "Friendsgiving" that I really started to enjoy the holiday. A group of us have been getting together every year for about 7 years now. I have to start making bread and rolls soon to bring over.
I don't usually do the "what are you thankful for?" thing but why not?
I'm thankful for all my friends who found me new jobs when I quit my job 6 months ago without any plan.
What are you thankful for?
