My Eating Disorder

in #relationship7 years ago

I talked about this a few months ago on my personal Facebook for #bellletstalk, I will now share it with my fellow steemians.

About 10 years ago, I started my first serious relationships with someone. At first he was sweet and charming, he was rough around the edges, which should have been a sign for me, but me being so young I just thought it was quirky.

Not long after we started being more serious, he started getting angrier at me for things that were out of my control. He also made ridiculous claims about things that I did or said that never actually happened. I now know that I was victim of gaslighting. Unfortunately, this was just the tip of the iceberg. I was 19 at the time of our first months as a couple and extremely skinny. As time went by, and I got older, my body changed, as they do in your early 20s. He did not like that, and insisted I was just getting fat.

My mother is overweight, and my ex was terrified of me becoming overweight as well, he used my mother to terrify me into eating less and less. Looking back, I was withering away, I weighed 100 pounds at the time, and yet, he insisted I needed to lose more weight.

Our relationship lasted 5 years, I still don't know how I managed to leave that toxic mess, but I'm glad I did. I started feeling better after leaving him, and managed to gain 20 pounds over that summer. I was happier and healthier.

It's never too late to leave someone and start over. image this is me right after I left him
