Behind the mystery door : A Perfect World

What lies behind the mystery door?

He stared at the door, all the while thinking if this was the place, the place he'd searched for all his life.
It was an old, rusty door.
The kind you'd pass by without noticing. Nothing magical or extraordinary about it. But he recognized it straightway having dreamt of it over and over every night.
He stood there emotionless, lost in his own thoughts, fear and excitement consuming him.

Was he ready

To see the end

To see what was on the other side of that door.

He remembered the countless opportunities he'd missed just because he was too afraid to take the final leap.
Finally he mustered up enough courage and walked towards the door with a smile on his face trying to hide his fear.
As he opened the door and peeped inside, there was nothing extraordinary.
Settling his nerves, he got his legs to move and entered the room, closing the door behind him.
What he found there was a mirror image of the world he'd left behind, the same people under the same sky.

But somehow he felt different

Somehow he felt at home

The world though similar in looks was different in just one thing.
He wasn't suffocating anymore.
He felt a weight lifting off his chest , he didn't understand the feeling but he knew what it was,

It was freedom

It was not a perfect world but he felt free, a feeling he'd longed for all his life.

It was not a wonderland

But it was home

So, this is my contribution. I hope I've made a decent addition to this.

While I was preparing to write this, I had to search a lot as I don't write regularly ( I intend to change that). I searched about the different ideas that people have of a perfect world.

And what baffled me is that there were a lot of answers suggesting that a world without religion would be a perfect one.
I don't think it has anything to do with religion. Our world is not a perfect world because we've made it like that. It is our tendency to self destruct, which is the major cause of all unhappiness.

If we look into our own lives we'll find how many times we have sabotaged our own lives, may it be a good job or a healthy relationship.

But that is how humans are and thus the idea of a perfect world is impractical and highly debatable.
But if there was one thing I'd want to find behind the mystery door, it will be

Freedom

Or maybe a Time Machine ;)
