SMA is an extension of Senior High School which is the level of formal education in Indonesia which is equivalent to high school abroad. Level of education pursued after graduation from junior high school (SMP). SMA is taken within the range of three years, from class X (class 1), class XI (class 2) to class XII (grade 3). For students who are smart, there is an accelerated program that is usually only taken within two years. In the XI class, high school students have the option of entering into one of three departments, namely Science, Social and Language (previously, there has never been a choice of majors in the name of science, social sciences and language. Then Physics, Biology, and Language). At the end of class XII (third year), students are required to undergo National Exam (Ebtanas). After that, when they have graduated from high school level, students can continue their education to university, but some are able to work immediately. In general, Understanding High School is a school of children aged 16 to 18 years. However, beyond that many students aged 14 or 15 are already in high school. Conversely, there are also students aged 20 or 21 years old are still high school uniforms. In ancient times, during Dutch colonialism, SMA was called by the name Algemeene Middelbare School (AMS). In the era of Japanese colonialism, high school called High School High (SMT). After independence, SMT changed its name again into Oemoem Upper Secondary School (SMOA). And shortly thereafter, SMOA turned into High School (SMA). In the academic year 1994/1995, SMA changed to High School (SMU). But only ten years, after 2003/2004 school, the term SMA is used again until now. SMA is organized by both government and private. Before the autonomous region was enacted in 2001, the management of public senior high schools in Indonesia under the Ministry of National Education (MoNE). Now, management is the responsibility of the district / city. The Ministry of Education has become a limited role of regulators in the national standards of education. Thus, structurally, the state has now become a high school technical implementation unit of the city education office
