Giraffe

We know the sounds of animals, the lion's roar, the barking of dogs, the birds chirping. But, what comes to mind when you think of giraffes? These long-necked animals have a grunt-like sound through their noses, but no one has identified them with the exact label to date.

Biologists say they have found that the giraffe is humming!

Long neck giraffe

Previously, some scientists speculated that giraffes could not produce any substantial sound. Because, physically, it is difficult for the giraffe to produce enough airflow to pass through their long necks to produce vocalisation. Others think that the giraffe makes an infrasonic sound-a low-frequency sound outside the reach of human hearing-as elephants or other large mammals for long-distance communication.

After observing nearly 1000 hours of sound recordings at three European zoos, Angela Stoger of the University of Vienna, Austria, found no evidence of infrasound communication. However, he found the strange humming to come from the giraffe's cage in the three zoos at night.
