Free Gifts? Yes Please! Seeds & Spring Enthusiasm!!

If there's anything I love it's the word 'free'. I mean, it's sweet business anyway, to give a little bonus gift, but I was pretty happy to order some seeds from an online supplier called 'Seeds of Plenty', which reminded me of @sagescrub's Seeds of Abundance, so thought it was a good sign (if you're in the States and looking for seeds, I do suggest you check out this site!). I was pretty happy to get about a few free packs of seeds - cress, radish and cosmos.

I've been busy organizing the area behind the compost bins with a little shed (which I found for 1/3 of the price on sale at my local hardware!!) to keep the tools out of the rain and keep my gardening sundries. The upturned apple crate next to it now has a little roof and some shelves - I can fit two bins that contain blood and bone and dynamic lifter, plus some milk crates for the seed pots, and room to stack my seed trays. So it's all super organised.

J. was sorting out his junk pile and taking stuff to the dump, and gave me a trolley which I have put next to the shed. It's the perfect height for potting up and my seed trays. Underneath I can fit a tub with the seed raising mix - there's a kinda plastic stop underneath the top shelf so the tub can't just fall out. Super easy to fill up my seed tray, add the soil, put my seeds in and layer the soil on top.

I also found one of these mini seed houses on sale so I bought one so I can start my tomatoes off inside. We aren't past the first frost yet. I do have tomatoes coming up in the mini greenhouse already, but I'm experimenting with raising some in and some outside and see which grow and survives first. I have got quite a few tomato seeds - black krim, ice (which are kinda white cherry tomatoes), black russian, yellow collosus, and sweet marbles. Been asking the good folk at @homesteaderscoop about tomatoes - @bobbydimitrov and @cresendoofpeace, this is what I ended up with. Oh, and @nateonsteemit, here's the post about SEEEEEDDDDS I know you're looking forward to. Planted some yellow and purple beans, and two varieties of eggplant and a cucumber too. And more to go in seed trays on the weekend. Pumped. Had a grand old time chatting away to Mum on speakerphone, planting seeds and listening to the cockies and maggies go mad as they were settling down for the evening. Mum reminded me of the galahs that used to much around out the front of our old place where we grew up - they were such playful idiots, swinging off the electric wires.

Happy days. Looks like it'll be sunny again before it gets cold again before Spring finally hits, but I reckon for about the first time ever I'm actually going to have shit sorted for it. It's got a lot to do with how I've worked pretty much every weekend on sorting the REST of the garden so everything is super neat. Glad I got all this stuff done on a Friday arvo AND the house all clean coz we have to go wooding tomorrow coz we are nearly out of wood. There's a few wattles need bringing down in the reserve and J. managed to fix the little Suzuki ute that's narrow enough to cheekily get through the council barriers, muahaha.

It's Friday night and I'm making a vego sausage casserole with this huge fennel I pulled out of the garden, lots of parsley and spinach from the garden, tinned tomatoes, some frozen sun dried tomatoes from last season and some roast swedes. Plus, of course, wine.

I've always liked the idea of "free gifts" when they come from shops/companies I already like... often ends up being an invitation to discover something I'd otherwise not have tried. And so, I guess the "free gifts" thing really does "work!"

Looks like you have a beautiful setup there!

Thanks and thanks for the comment. I really love my garden and the whole set up is exactly how I want it after years of working it all out. All I need is a PROPER greenhouse now!! Free gifts are a nice touch.

First. Gardener. Ever. 🤣
I think we need a more complete list of what you plan on planting. For science.

Haha I think its coz EVERY weekend this winter I have been in garden doing things. I was saying so to Jamie... been plotting, planning, organising, weeding. I am quite proud of myself. Its because i have to do something when he is in shed with landrover and boat.

Cool you were able to get things on the cheap and organize them so well! Hope all the seddlings do real well. :))

You know me... its all about the bargain!!

Hello
I also like the word "free"
I also love to pick vegetables.
This year I had a lot of radish, which I gave to the neighboring animal “pig”. The whole bucket.
And tomatoes are already in the cellar, closed in banks, harvested for the winter. So I'm waiting for spring to start all over again.
Thanks for the interesting article.

You are welcome. I bet the pigs enjoyed those radishes!

I did not ask, but I think yes, I liked it. There were a lot of radishes, my family and I could not eat it. It was a pity to give, but throwing it away would be stupid.

The whole idea of a seed is a Free Gift - and such an amazing thought to consider. Something that offers you a free chance to reproduce what you have just enjoyed. So much love in this post - so much community spirit. Appreciated.
