DTubeQ: Surprise!!!!! Have you Ever Surprised Anyone with Your Presence (Might Make You Cry)

in #dtubeq6 years ago (edited)

Who loves a surprise? This dsnap was sent to me by my gorgeous man who's over in England surprising his mother, who he hasn't seen in person for 3 years. She's been having a super tough time of things with family illnesses and has been really, really struggling. We knew she desperately wanted to see her son, but Australia is a long way from Somerset, and she couldn't make it due to having to care for her sick husband. Life is short though, no? I told J. to get on a plane and go see her for Christmas.

In the clip, he's in the back of his sister's car under a tarp, and his sister has brought their Mum out to help on the pretense that she needs to store the lawnmower in her shed as her own shed started leaking. It's black for the first little while as he's under the tarp. The video goes upside down because - well, it's hard to film, pass the phone to your sister and hug your Mum at the same time.

I've watched this video twenty times and I cry every time. If you can't watch the Dtube, here's the Youtube. It's black to begin with, and then goes upside down - but hey, it's pretty darn sweet anyway.

15 years ago, my sister surprised me in England for my wedding. My folks came over, but my sister said she couldn't afford it. Initially, she couldn't, but her beautiful fiance (now my brother in law) said she'd never get the chance to be at my wedding again, so sod the expense and just go. She called me reverse charges from the station down the road and I was like - what the hell are you doing calling me reverse charges from Australia? I can't afford that! And she said - um, can you come pick me up at Morton station? I still get shivers thinking about it.

Six months later, she was getting married and I said I couldn't afford it. I mean, it was perfectly feasible - I had a hubby and kid too, so it would be quite costly for us to fly home. Of course, I scraped up the pennies and surprised her. My folks drove me around to their house and went in first whilst my son and I stayed outside around the corner. Five minutes later I rang the doorbell and my future brother in law came to answer the door. The look on his face! He couldn't even speak! He basically had to reach for the wall to steady himself, he was so surprised. My sister was calling 'who is it?' and he couldn't even speak. Walked down the corridor and she saw me and burst into tears. A grand family moment, and one none of us ever forget.

Surprises can really be wonderful.

Have you ever surprised someone with your presence?

That is so sweet! Must be one of the best xmas his mum has had in a while!

And you guys are from Somerset? So am I!! So far I'm trying to find the Steemian who comes from the nearest place to me.

Oh really!!!! Well... I'm Australian but my husband is English. His Mum lives in Coleford and his sister Stratton on the Fosse. We lived near Radstock for a while then a good few years in Dorset then back up to Radstock (Clandown) Where in Somerset were you @livinguktaiwan?

ah! I'm from Weston Super Mare, or Weston Super Mud they call it nowadays! We used to be part of Avon country but they got rid of that a few years ago and merged us with Somerset. Good to know there are other Steemians who comes from nearby!

Ah cool...t'other side of Mendips! I do miss it..

That was really cool! No, I don't think I've ever done that. Love that your family has several times. :))

Awe! Had me teared up too! How wonderful that you can surprise your family like that and being a mom I can totally relate to how she must be feeling to have her son home! Thanks for sharing that bit of love!

No worries!!! It was so lovely. I think all Mums can relate!

Can't watch videos as I'm on restricted data, but the stories are giving me allergies for sure.

what a great present he gave her. I surprised my younger sister on her 21st bday. I was living in Australia at the time and phoned her during her party. I told her I had trouble hearing her and could she go outside where the connection might be better. She came out the door of the pub and there I was. I will never forget the look on her face xx

Oh my goodness. That is a fantastic one. It is all the more surprising I think when you are so far away as all the good stories I hear about surprised when people lived 10000 miles away lol. What a lovely memory. She must have been so thrilled to see you.

It's odd, I can't see the video, it's all black both DTube and Youtube videos, so must be my computer...

I know how tough it is for his mum to live so far from her son. I used to live in Europe (France and UK) for 16 years while my parents lived in New Caledonia. So it's almost like for your husband but the other way around.

Wishing both your families an amazing end of year 2018!

It is black for the first 20 seconds because he is under a tarp. You can hear his voice and then the rustle of the tarp and can see when he lifts the tarp to surprise his mum. Just watch those few seconds first and then you will see. Yes I know what you mean full stop when I lived in England I missed my family in Australia a lot for those 6 years. I was really glad to move back close to them. I am still not sure if I could live that far away from them again as we are quite close. It is lucky that the wife gets her way and not the other way around. At least we can afford to send him home once in a while full stop wishing you and yours a Merry Christmas too xx
