PRATAPGAD FORT MAHARASHTRA (INDIA)

Pratapgad Fort, situated in the district of Maharashtra, is also known as the battlefield of Pratapgadh. 15 km from the fort Poladpur And 23 km from Mahabaleshwar Is located at a distance. At the height of 1080 meters above sea level, this fort is built on a mountain canyon. Shivaji entrusted the responsibility of building this fort to protect the banks of the rivers and crosses of the Nira and Koyna rivers, to Moropant Trimbak Pingal.

Construction of the fort was completed in 1656. Battle of Pratapgarh was fought between Shivaji and Afzal Khan on 10 November 1659 under the ridge of the fort. This war gave the foundation of the Maratha empire. Even after this in regional politics, Pratapgarh's share remained.

The Maratha empire had suffered heavy losses in the third battle of British rule in 1818 and they had to be defeated by the fort of Pratapgad. Mainly the ownership of Uday Raje Bhosle, successor of Satara principality on the fort built in two parts.

महाराष्ट्र के जिला सतारा में स्थित है प्रतापगढ़ किला, जो प्रतापगढ़ के युद्धस्थल के रूप में भी जाना जाता है।किला पोलादपुर से 15 किमी.और महाबलेश्वर से 23 किमी.की दूरी पर स्थित है।समुद्र तल से 1080 मीटर की ऊंचाई पर यह किला एक पर्वत स्कंध पर बना हुआ है।शिवाजी ने नीरा और कोयना नदियों के तटों और पार दर्रे की रक्षा के लिए इस किले के निर्माण का उत्तरदायित्व मोरोपंत त्रिम्बक पिंगल को सौंपा था।

किले का निर्माण कार्य 1656 में पूरा हो गया था।प्रतापगढ़ का युद्ध 10 नवंबर 1659 को किले की प्राचीर के नीचे शिवाजी और अफजल खान के बीच लड़ा गया था।इसी युद्ध ने मराठा साम्राज्य की नींव डाली थी।क्षेत्रीय राजनीति में इसके बाद भी प्रतापगढ़ की हिस्सेदारी बनी रही।

1818 में अंग्रेजों से हुए तीसरे युद्ध में मराठा साम्राज्य को भारी नुकसान उठाना पड़ा और उन्हें प्रतापगढ़ किले से भी हाथ धोना पड़ा।मुख्यत: दो भागों में बंटे किले पर सतारा रियासत के उत्तराधिकारी उदय राजे भोंसले का स्वामित्व
