The effects of Hardfork have hit hard

So hardfork 19 has been implemented a while now and it's the last day or two that the effects are really hitting hard. I've noticed a massive trend of upvotes reducing.

Minnows are only using their upvotes to try gain on curation on whale posts. Whales have less upvotes to use so they are upvoting each other as they always have but now having less wiggle room to upvote the minnows.

Hardfork seemed like a blessing to everyone at the start, including me, my payouts hugely increased, for a short period. Now the dust has settled and people have got to grips with very fast upvote dilution upvotes have decreased across the board.

Hardfork has also damaged steem on the market causing mass cashouts. Which has plumetted the value of steem tokens.

A lot of minnows don't realise either that at minnow levels the actual value of trying to earn on curation is so tiny it's almost pointless until they reach higher level of MVESTS. The value of upvoting minnows to gain a following is far more advantageous for their own growth than gaining 0.001 SP they will get on curation of a whale post.

Now that's not to say don't upvote whales, not at all, whales are whales because they post great content I myself regularly upvote whales like @timsaid and @trafalgar because I enjoy their content.

But so many minnows I've talked to are upvoting any whale they can find regardless of content to get 'curation rewards', this is pointless and non productive in this new hardfork enviroment and incase minnows didnt know the curation reward is about 0.001SP almost not worth it until your voting power has increased.

So until the next hardfork theirs a lot of lessons to be learned by newcomers.

Upvoting whales just for curation rewards is non productive unless you do truly value their content. Upvoting upcoming steemians can gain you a following which will result in faster growth.

Remember how many times you have upvoted everyday and check your current voting power on the likes of streemian.com

And finaly upvote content you do enjoy as that is what Steemit is about rewarding great content!

I agree with you but time will allow people to learn.

I will definetly be posting some articles advising new users because new incoming users are what will allow steemit to grow.

I look forward to the posts.

Steemit will die out imo if this isnt fixed

It's having a huge effect on both the growth of new users which will encourage them to give up and the value of steem tokens on the market.

Yeah im gonna power down all my Steem and cash out. I liked it for a bit, but the upvotes are just being shared with the wealthy. We got in too late

Minnows would probably do better upvoting themselves then trying to get curation rewards, I've noticed a drastic reduction in upvotes but post payouts do seem to be larger non the less, @minnowsupport is also a great help adding 80 or so cents extra to your post, you just have to think about it in the long run, that 80 or so cents now could be worth up to $6 or more dollars a year from now when Steem price is much higher. You just have to work harder now to get upvotes but when you do get them it's much more lucrative. Give it time it's only been a week the dust will settle and people will care less about their voting power and more votes will come.
People need to stop getting so hung up on their voting power.

I've noticed a MASSIVE reduction in upvotes to the point that payouts are at about a quarter or less of pre hardfork earnings. I think this new system will discourage new users from staying the long run. We know that Steemit 'might' and it's a big might right now at the current trend massively increase in value but new users are going to see their content as worthless and just give up before they can gain anything.

Maybe so but you'd be surprised how much your pending post payouts actually amounts too, yours is just over $77 for the last 6 days, Wether it discourages newbies or not that's still $77 you wouldn't have if you weren't on steemit and as I said that's at the current Steem price be it in a year and Steem is at $10 that's around 4 or 5 hundread dollars you'll have earned in the last 6 days, plus the more steempower you have the more you'll earn it's just a matter of building it up, newbies have to learn this, they can't just come on and expect big rewards post hardfork or not. People who give up will never reap rewards be it on Steemit or just life in general.

Thats $77 pre hardfork, if you check my last 2 days which is now when hardfork seems to be hitting that amounts to about $6 in total. Changing from $7 to $10 per post to $0.80 per post, that's a huge slump.

That's $77 post hardfork, it's the pending post payout for the last 6 days so after the hardfork was implemented

As the days have gone by since hardfork 19 payouts have gotten progressively lower and upvotes have gotten less and less, take this exact post as an example, a discussion on hardfork, this post is currently valued at $0.70 the same type of hardfork discussion 1 week ago payout out at over $10 with far greater numbers of upvoters.

Hardfork was not a great change in my opinion.

edit ok the value has changed now

I just upvote good content and hope for the best. So far, so good!

Just wish more people on steemit did as you do. I never look for curation rewards anymore because they amount to zip as a minnow. I upvote what I enjoy.

Exactly! They're worthless imo.

If i made .300 steem on curation a week I'd be very lucky.

Yea, you make far more off developing a community and sharing experiences.

Exactly if you develop a regular conversation with followers they are more likely to return to your work. I won't lie I enjoy posting and sharing experiences and some of my writing but I am in it for the money, we all are really because we could do the same as we're doing right now on established blogging sites for no monetary reward if we wanted. We all want to grow and see the rewards in order to get our content out there.

great post.. I am a minnow and I agree totally. vote for minnows

Many new minnows see a post valued at $1000 and upvote it thinking thats worth something but it's worth nothing. Minnows should upvote minnows for growth and upvote whales when they truly enjoy their content.

to be honest rick I just upvote whatever I see that's good and go with my instinct. If they're a whale, that's as much luck, timing, early adoption *buy in's) and not always about talent is it?

Let's face it, there's a lot of whale crap spinning around, getting unworthy votes as it is. I am just a minnow after all and I love seeing a really well crafted post worth $30-$40 and knowing how much that will mean to the tiny fish who just made $20 SBD everyone is equal, just some more equal than others and that can change

I wish more people voted like you. But it simply isn't true for a lot of people. But besides that hardfork 19 has really put us minnows in a tight squeeze.

And yes I agree some whales were just buy ins but we needed those too in order for steem to grow on the market but I generally only upvote something I enjoy reading and some content is great.

ah well, this is the start of the blockchain revolution.. being a knowledge source / expert will be useful over the next 10 years !

I understand that the reason our payouts are rubbish right now is because the value of steem tokens right now is quite rubbish but it's quite frustrating seeing since hard fork the number of upvotes drop completely and the pendibg payouts dropping back down to cents. I think the 4 times the upvote weight/ 4 times faster dilution was a bit over the top.

I'm not sure what the whale gods are thinking. it seems to have made things more equitable down thefodchain but it's spooked everyones votes !! which is odd because even at low power my votes are still worth more than they were pre-hard pork19.. so i'm assuming everyone else's is.. it's the refresh time which is the killer, but there you go ! no worries. keep posting I'm listening

To be fair it should have made things better for minnows, i've no doubt the whale gods thought that this would allow minnows to upvote each other to gain some value. But minnows being minnows and very uneducated seem to still slap an upvote on a $1000 post thinking thats the right thing to do instead of using their upvote on a minnow post that would probably gain more on curation and possibly a following. But go figure, maybe people will figure it out eventually. 😲

following rick ( my middle name is rick !)

Haha I'll drop you one back. Thanks.

I think the changes made were a little too drastic. The reality is that it's going to take a certain amount of trial and error to get the balance just right.

The changes were far too drastic in my opinion. Its caused a landslide in market value due to the sudden cashouts on the initial boost of hardfork but now those payouts are not consistent

kinda upvoting those that are active, seeing them helping out, and articles that I like.

Still they gotta remember that knowledge is power and having a community that follows you on what you doing is to also socializing. Acknowedge their content creations as well by not just upvoting or don't have to upvote. following and engaging with each other is precious social networking too.

Exactly I didn't cover the value of reading someones content and replying in this post I'll cover it in a further article. But yes you're absolutely right everyone values a reply that is personal to your work and it encourages them to check you work out hence gaining followers which is a prime example as I give you a follow right now :)

really a good info bro and i will try to use what i learn here thanks

Steemit has a very high learning curve in my opinion and most minnows just think upvotes whales to get money. People should just upvote on what they enjoy on steemit whether it's content from whales or minnows. But definetly minnows are going to follow and view your content far more than a whale will.
