20 interesting facts about Bitcoin

Along with my recent interest in all things crypto I decided to search for some interesting nuggets of fact about bitcoin that I didnt know and discovered these 20 nuggets.

Interesting nuggets

  1. For years nobody knew who actually started bitcoin it was merely known to be started by Satoshi Nakamoto a pseudonim for the person or persons originally created it but in 2016 an Australian tech entrepreneur Craig Stevens came forward as being the creator and proves him claim when he produced the crptographic keys used that Satashi Nakamoto used to send the first Bitcoin transaction to a man called Hal Finney. Although many people are still skeptical about his claim.

  2. The first known bitcoin payment was made in 2003 when a man payed 10'000 bitcoins for a pizza which today is worth $24mil. A very expensive pizza.

  3. Durin the bitcoin boom in 2010 when bitcoin was only worth a few cent then rose to $27 many miners began mining 24hrs a day, police accidently raided a mans house for suspected growing of marijuana due to the amount of electricity he was using.

  4. There is a limited amount of bitcoins, only 21 million coins can ever exist which is why bitcoin has a value, it is estimated that 2140 will be the year the last bitcoin will be mined.

  5. Their are physical Bitcoins which contain a small amount of digital information on them although they were banned in USA and few companies will accept them for payment.

  6. The FBI has one of the biggest Bitcoin wallets in the world, when the FBI shutdown 'the silk road' a website selling Illegal goods only and taking payment in Bitcoin, the FBI seized the wallet when they shut it down.

  7. A huge amount of Bitcoins are never used, many people have either lost or forgot about their Bitcoins, one example is Kristopher Koch from Norway who forgot he had invester $28 and when he checked his Bitcoin wallet it was worth over 800 thousand dollars.

  8. Jet Li introduced Bitcoins to Chinese officials when his charity organistation one foundation received a donation in Bitcoin.

  9. A journalist was given a bitcoin on TV the same day a viewer stole it from him.

  10. Vancouver Canada had the first Bitcoin ATM.

  11. Thiland was the first country to outlaw Bitcoin in 2013.

  12. Bitcoins were worth 4 cent in 2010.

  13. Lambourghini was the first car manufacturer to accept Bitcoin as payment.

  14. You can buy pizza in the Netherlands with Bitcoin.

  15. Kreuzberg in berlin is a Bitcoin friendly shopping area.

  16. Mel B is the first musician would accepted Bitcoin for hwr music.

  17. China banned banks from trading in Bitcoins in 2013.

  18. Every Bitcoin transaction is completely anonymous from where it came from and where it went.

  19. 68% of all bitcoins are never used.

  20. In 2013 a James Howells threw away a hard drive in 2013 worth $7.5 million. Today that hard drive would be worth $177 million.

Some of these I knew about and some I didn't but have to say they were fun to find out about.

Very amazing! I think most us wish we had been wiser and acquired Bitcoin when it was just a few cents.

Ah we could say the same about many things, it just wasn't to be. Better not thinking about it. I find it amazing that 68% of bitcoins aren't used that's a massive number!

You are right. It's better not to look back. Yes, 68 percent is a lot of Bitcoin.
