Apple Inc. to sell robots created by a Nigerian

In today's tech world, Robotics ties into many aspect of S.T.E.M, and I don't know anyone who hates Robots. Do you?

Well, a Nigerian-British man, Adekunle Silas, whose company makes gaming robots has partnered with the global tech giant Apple Inc. to sell his MekaMons robots.

The Apple tech stores based in the United Kingdom and the United States have commenced the distribution and sale of MekaMons, a gaming robot built by the Nigerian-British inventor, Silas Adekunle.

The huge partnership deal between Adekunle’s company, Reach Robotics was struck recently with Apple Inc.

The MekaMons product which has a price tag of $299.95 was released in shops and online from 16th November. The unique robot can be operated with an iPhone and other smartphone devices.

Adekunle Silas was born in Nigeria, but moved to the UK when he was 11-years-old. Reach Robotics is a gaming company that primarily creates co-op gaming robots for both gaming fun and STEM education.

Adekunle is an engineer with a First Class Honours Bachelor’s degree in Robotics Technology from the University of the West of England in Bristol. He previously worked with GE Aviation and Infineon.

According to a recently published press release by Black Enterprise, Adekunle said...

> “We’ve created an entirely new video gaming platform.”

> “MekaMon straddles both the real and virtual worlds while taking the gaming experience beyond a player’s screen and turning their sitting room into a limitless robotic battle zone. MekaMon represents a quantum leap forward in the leveraging of augmented reality.”


The MekaMons robot is a four-legged robot that reality game players can control using a smartphone with a companion app for augmented gameplay.

Size

MekaMons support multiple players who can have their MekaMons battle one another. MekaMons robot weigh about two pounds each is 11.8 by 11.8 by 5.9 inches in dimension.

Connectivity

The robots can connect to each other via Bluetooth and Infrared signals which allows for co-operative gameplay.

MekaMons are powered by a rechargeable battery which provides power of up to an hour of game play.

Compatibility

MekaMons are compatible with high-tech smartphones and iPhones. For navigation duels, the robot uses the smartphone’s camera and infrared tracking capability for precise navigation.

Base

Reach Robotics was founded in 2013, by Adekunle Silas and is based at the Bristol Robotics Laboratory (BRL) Technology Incubator hub. Adekunle’s colleague, Chris Beck has been working as a roboticist in the Bristol Robotics Laboratory.

According to southwestbusiness.co.uk, the past few months has seen the tech company experience fast growth. The firm is moving out of its offices at Future Space in Bristol, very soon.

Funding

Reach Robotics has also secured $9.5million (£7.1million) of investment funds from organizations “that have seen the potential in what the company is developing”, according to Adekunle Silas.

Staff

Adekunle’s company has also taken space for the 29 members of staff under its employ at the Bristol Business Park.

The Reach Robotics company is projecting a fast growth in the nearest future. They are also targeting the UK and US gaming and tech market in the lead up to Christmas period.
