These Are Public Park Emergencies!
Chinglish is a real thing, but sometimes, it's easy to misunderstand something is "China weirdness" when there could actually be rational explanation. Here in Changzhou, there is a park that has epic levels of bad English on its signage. Walking around the place and giggling at it made me possibly misunderstand something else. Some of Changzhou's parks have EMERGENCY! signs all over the place, and they tend to correspond with nothing actually around them. I took pictures of them all. Then, when I had coffee with a friend, I shared them. She looked at them, laughed, and then possibly offered an explanation. It went like this. China has a zeal and passion for urban planning. Parts of the country have had earthquakes, flooding, and heavy typhoons. Perhaps all this signage actually has a purpose? Should there be an actual emergency, people should go to these places? Perhaps these signs are meant to be where emergency stations for water, medical treatment, and more should be located? Are questions an easy way to suggest things without actually have facts to prove them? I actually tried to Google this idea, but this is China, and it is opaque at best when it comes to what the central, regional, and municipal governments actually think. Plus, there is also the language barrier. In short, I don't know, but the my friend's suggestion actually makes a lot of sense. That said, here are pictures of the signage.
