My Everyday Xinbei

in #photography7 years ago

Those who have followed me on this platform know that I do a lot of wandering. Sometimes, I end up and strange places, and sometimes I do not. Yes, I do a lot of wandering around my neck of China, but that's just everyday life for me. So, for the purposes of context, I decided to do a pictorial of where I live. These are the scenes of my day to day life in Changzhou's northern district of Xinbei. When I am not teaching or on my bike in the middle of nowhere or on a train to another city, these are the streets I walk and the buildings I always see while usually looking for something to eat for lunch or dinner. Or, in the case of Wanda Plaza, where I go to Walmart to buy cat food for a very naughty kitty.

Oh, and these photos were taken on a rainy day. That's not smog in the background. However, yes, Changzhou is an industrial city and does have a chemical haze to it. I have invented new words for weather like

SMAIN: Smog + Rain

SMIZZLE: Smog + Drizzle

For example....

VISITOR: Hey, Rich, what's the weather like outside?

ME: Not sure, it's either smaining or just smizzly. Oh, wait, it's all stopped we just have a flat out smoggy day.

While, yes, China does have it's pollution, the country does have its share of nice, no-chemical-hazed days. These photos do not look like one of those days. And trust me, this was just rain. Smain and Smizzle are not common.

Wow That Beautiful And Nice Photography ! Maybe someday i want to go there

China looks proper interesting @richristow are you on a grand chinese tour?

Not really. I live here. I work as an English teacher at a university, and am currently into my fourth year in the country. Don't have any plans to go back to the USA to live any time soon because English is a crammed labor market when it comes to higher education. It's why I left in the first place. I couldn't make a living wage. In China, I can.

Amazing stuff, my friend Harry quit his London corporate job to go teach English in a Hagwan in Seoul, Korea.

You heard their teachers out there can become millionaires?

Millionaires, no. Very comfortable in day to day life, yes. The three top ESL job Markets go like this: China, South Korea, and Dubai. The most money to made teaching English abroad would be in Dubai. But, that country is a bit too hot, sandy, and in the middle east. I do not regret my choice of China at all.

wow. teaching is lucrative. but that seems like an anomaly.

You never know @richristow time to go to Korea and open up a Hagwan School and take that risk. Might fall on your face, or become very very wealthy hehe

I'm definitely following a fellow wander! I love all the pictures of the SMIZZLE and SMAIN

Great captures @richristow, they have a nice depth to them!!! Looks like a really cool and interesting place.

Wuaaoo that city is so beautiful, like, I felt like visiting it!

Nice sharing. You made me thought about to share my recent trip to Guiyang. What do you think about this?
In fact, I am very surprise that your post in English still got that much attention and upvote. This is very encouraging as I am suck at typing Chinese, creating post in English certainly is much easier for me. Let me spend some time to create a post about that trip and share with you all.

Beautiful pictures! Keep Steeming!
