Snow In Arkansas
It snows so infrequently in the Arkansas River Valley that when it does it's kinda a big deal. Most of you will look and laugh at what we characterize as a "major snowstorm" but rest assured if this was a weekday, the schools would be closed along with many public utilities.
Another downside to having such little snow is that nobody knows how to drive in it... they will still wait until they're 10 feet from the stop sign to slam on the brakes and go skidding into another car. Anyways, I decided to brave the cold and open my front window to snap a few shots before making the ultimate sacrifice and risk life and limb to go out on the back deck to do the same. I hope you enjoy our massive snowstorm!
This is supposed to continue for most of the day, so who knows???
Drive with the snow it's always a challenge even if you are experienced, never play with the snow by driving on it

I currently live in Canada so we obviously get a lot of snow. The biggest contributor to good driving in snowy conditions is not skill so much as having snow tires. Snow tires make all the difference. They dont slide on ice like regular tires do.
I lived in North Carolina for two years and it was the same, if there was even a hint of snow, the city would basically shut down. One thing that I found bizarre and interesting as far as human behavior goes, is that if people heard that it would snow, everyone in the city would rush to the grocery store and buy up all the milk and bread. The grocery stores would be empty for several days of just those two items because of it. I always found that bizarre and hilarious. do they do that in Arkansas as well?

Yes, the cupboards are bare in Arkansas- it's like the end of civilization. I grew up in Boston so I can drive in snow- and good tires make all the difference. I think what they lack here is common sense. I lived in NC too, back in the 80's, in Pembroke with "the Indians."

Bruno is ok I guess... it's getting weird. He used to hide in the bathroom when there was a thunderstorm. Then it was when it rained. Then when the wind blew. Now he hangs out in there most of the time.
Boston has had a mild winter so far this year (I'm grateful) and this is our first taste of the stuff. I'm on the train out of the city and didn't think to take a picture, but so far it's gotten less than you have.
I'm not looking forward to Monday, though, with an expected high of 11 degrees F.

We're supposed to be back in the 50's by monday! I remember the blizzard of 1978 in Boston. I was managing an apartment building in Camb. and had a basement apt. I woke up and it was dark so I went back to sleep. This happened 3-4 times before I got up to discover my windows were covered. I went up to the lobby and the cars were all buried and people with cross country skis were going down the middle of Harvard St. I shoveled for 3 days straight to make a walkway. That was my last year in Boston- I left in Sept.
That was an historic storm!
The fellow I worked with at Peretti's was working at the Boston Public Library then. He said he got trapped in the city and the hotel across the street let him stay in the supply closet in exchange for shoveling and helping out, but that he and the rest of the staff mostly just drank the hotel's booze for four days and partied by candle-light.
If you're going to get stuck in a hotel in Boston that's the one to get stuck in!
