I don’t usually do this type of post, but I wanted to talk about this because I really like to talk about this polemic topic that is being spoken all around the world. As always in all my post I do a little introduction about the theme and then I go ahead to what I am going to talk about.

What is Marijuana (or Cannabis)? 

It’s a psychotropic (a drug) used for religious, medicinal and other purposes. This “plant” can be used to make tea, cookies, cakes, etc. To make these foods you need to have: hash oil (not in all of them). 

Hashish oil: hash is a cinnamon color resin, brown or black that is dry and it’s pressed in bars, pieces or balls. When smoking emits a sweet aroma that is really characteristic of it. 

The “drug” can be obtained from the flowers of the plant. When it’s sold, it’s like a mix of dry leaves, stems and seeds. It has a brown with green type of color and it’s like a lint ball and it has a rough texture. 

The effect that this “drug” gives to go to a trip is called: THC (tetrahydrocannabinol)  

THC: creates the effect that alter the mind that classify marijuana as a “drug”. THC is the protective mechanism of marijuana plant.  

It can be smoked like a cigarette (a joint) or it can be smoke too in a “bong” that is a type of pipe with water in it. It can be eaten like a cookie or drinked as tea (like I said before). 

4:20 (TIME TO SMOKE!)

This is used to say that someone is smoking marijuana. 4:20 is usually the time that some people smoke. This term is originally from USA and it comes from the San Rafael school in California (1971). A group of teenagers met around the Louis Pasteur statue to smoke marijuana. The time 4:20 was chosen because the classes ended at 3:20 and extracurricular hours and detentions ended at 4:20, and on April 20th this is the day turned into the World Cannabis Day. 

Some benefits that the marijuana can give to some diseases are these:

• Glaucoma: It can lower the eye pressure.
• Multiple sclerosis: It can slow it down. 
• Alzheimer: Reduce brain levels and improve cognitive behavior in animals it could reduce the progression of this degenerative disease. 
• Schizophrenia: Really effective like the antiseptics do. But even more effective with the symptoms.    

EFFECTS 

There are two types of effects: 

• Psychotropic: They produce a wellness sensation, good vibe and that everything slows down. Your senses of touching and hearing can increase even more, like the color of things too. It can be used as a way to relax and remove the stress, to take off the shyness and let go even more. You can even feel the music better than you do in your daily life.
• Medicinal: They can be beneficial for the chemotherapy, depression, pain, etc. 

LEGALIZATION 

The legalization of this “drug” is really controversial around the world. People say that is bad for health, is only drug trafficking purpose and others say that is really good for health, there are plenty of medicinal studies that prove that the marijuana is good for consume. 

In some countries you can be punished, the cops can arrest you because you have contraband material, and you can go to prison for this. 

The consume of drugs is always going up, even an adolescent can get marijuana everywhere and cops can’t control this at any time. You can see in this map the legalization or not of it: 

In my opinion, marijuana should be legalized. Is a drug and I know that, but it has some really good benefits when you consume it, scientists already have many proofs that this “drug” works very well, if you smoke you can have cancer, because you are smoking it, but you can consume it in any other way. You can relax, you can have fun with your friends and it has medicinal purposes too (very important in the discussion of legalizing marijuana). You can smoke it (or that’s what everyone does), it can be taken orally too, but many people smoke it. 

I have some friends that tried marijuana and I have seen it. They feel very relaxed and sometimes dizzy, they are having great times while they are in that trip. Not too much to say but they are not addicts to it, if they don't have marijuana then they don't feel that they need to have, they just do anything else, if they have the opportunity to smoke marijuana, then they take advantage of it and they smoke it with other friends too.

People get very mad when you say something about marijuana (depending the person). Just because it’s a drug doesn’t mean something, if a state or country decide to legalize marijuana, the country would not have much to do with criminals and the responsibility of consuming it is yours and not of them, like the alcohol.  Even some celebrities like: Seth Rogen, Miley Cyrus (I think that she left it), Rihanna, Jennifer Aniston, etc.

Many countries around the world have certain rules about this drug, with the possession, cultivation, consume and sale. You can be punished with prison during a lot of years, maybe months, life imprisonment or even the death. For example: 

• In China you can be punished with life imprisonment or death for the possession or traffic of this drug. 
• In Taiwan the consume and possession can be punished with 7 years of prison (or more) and the possession of big amounts or traffic can send you to the death. 
• In Philippines by just having a gram of marijuana they can send you to life imprisonment. 
• It’s better if I don’t talk about Singapore, because they see you smoking marijuana and your life is gone. 

So, you can see that marijuana is a very serious discussion around the world. Some countries are very soft with this theme, others are rough with it and some countries have marijuana to gift away to the people like Amsterdam.

Some benefits if they legalize marijuana: 

• The illegal market is ended and corruption and violence are reduced. T
• he artificial prices of drugs fall and the profit of organized crime is reduced. 
• The government does not spend money in the fight against drug trafficking.
• The treatment of addicts would be public. 
• The government receives sales taxes.
