Moon photographing quick tip #2

in #photography7 years ago

So I tried putting down some word on how to get a decent picture of the moon in a previous post but I've learned a lot since that.

After the previous post I moved over to a 70-300mm lens (Canon-ef-70-300mm-f-4-56-is-usm) on the same Canon 5D camera and tried again. Unfortunately it has not been clear skies since the last post but changing equipment and different settings proved promising results regardless.

Putting the equipment on a tripod with the approx. settings as listed I got some interesting shots.
Focus: MF
ISO: 500
Shot: 1/4 sec. f/9 280 mm
Image Stabilisation: Off

Zoomed in version of the moon shows a lot more details.

And playing a bit with just brightness and contrast a lot more details can be seen.

I'm hoping to redo a similar session with clear skies and a bright moon to really see the effect of the improved setup.
I might also be looking for a second hand Canon 2x extender in order to make the moon fill more of the sensor, yes it might (probably will) reduce the sharpness of the details but I thinks its worth a try, the alternative is a lot more expensive.

Hope you enjoy and I will continue to share as I learn more!

Happy new years all :)

Beautiful moon. Very detailed. The moon can be fascinating. 😊

Thank you, I think its pretty good with the equipment I have.
Yes the moon is fascinating, guess that's why I try to snap some good photos of it :)

Happy new year :)

Thank you, I still want to try my hand at night photography, especially of the moon. I will follow you for more tips and ideas.

Thank you, hopefully I'm able to get it even better :)

Happy new year :)
