Woolf is renowned as one of the modern literary figures of the 20th century and pioneers the use of stream of consciousness writing techniques as a narrative in his novels. A row of writers named the full Adeline Virginia Woolf, among others, Mrs. Dalloway (1925), To The Light House (1927) and A Room of One's Own (1929).

Born to a learned family of couples Julia Prinsep Duckworth Stephen and Sir Leslie Stephen, Woolf grew up in a large family with his brother and half sister from his mother's mother's previous marriage. Woolf's father was known as the famous editor and writer of his time. Author James Russell Powell even became godfather to Virginia and writers Henry James and George Elliot were good friends with his father.

But Virginia's mother's death when she was 13 and her brother's death two years later has caused her depression. His father's death also worsened his condition, until he was put into a mental hospital for healing.
He studied at London's Kings College with some prominent figures in literature, one of which was Leonard Woolf who later became her husband. Virginia and Leonard Woolf married in 1912 but did not make her life happy. In 1922, Virginia met with Vita Sackville-West who reportedly became a special relationship up to 10 years. One of his novels, Orlando, is mentioned as a love letter to West.

Raised in an intellectual and literary community, Woolf became one of the key figures in the Bloomsbury Group, an intellectual group and author of EM Forster and JM Keynes.
Woolf's famous work, Mrs. Dalloway and To The Lighthouse, uses the "stream of consciousness" narrative that depicts the character's perspective with his daily activities with an emphasis on the character's life context and history with all the mind-numbing thoughts. The opening sentence of this novel even became one of the most famous in the history of English literature.

The other non-fiction work of A Room of One's Own has made Woolf one of the leading feminist figures. "A woman must have her own money and space for her to write fiction," she wrote in a commentary that is one of the most famous quotes to describe women's independence.
But Woolf's life ended tragically. During World War II raging in Europe, Woolf suffered severe depression. Unable to cope with his depression, Woolf put on his coat, filling his pouch with stones and walking to the Ouse River on March 28, 1941. He then plunged into the river. Authorities found his body three weeks later.
Despite its declining popularity after World War II, Woolf's work again resonated with a new generation of readers during the 1970s feminist movement. Woolf remains one of the most influential writers of the 21st century.
