Our Response on Polio Outbreak in the Philippines

in #philippines5 years ago

Hello Steemians,

I'm back after a week. I've been doing a meaningful activity in our community in response to the Polio Outbreak in the Philippines.

On September 19, 2019, an outbreak of polio was declared in our country, the Philippines. Children are at risk of lifelong paralysis because of this outbreak.

By that, the local governments and other stakeholders are working together on comprehensive outbreak response, including the mass polio immunization round which started last week. All children, regardless of whether they are covered by the mass immunization campaign or not, should be vaccinated according to the routine immunization.

Our City has no positive case of polio, but we are in support to the campaign of door-to-door patak polio, or most likely, we are visiting the different areas in our community, house to house to ensure that children are protected.

The Round 1 of this campaign started last November 25, 2019, and I am so grateful to be part of Polio Outbreak Response Immunization or PORI team in our community.

Our team is composed of one nurse, 4 community health workers, nutrition scholars, community officials, and volunteers.

(These are our group photos from day 1 to day 7)

We visited 14 areas including the schools with a total of 700 plus children aging from 0-59 months old.

Prevention is better than cure, and I am thankful to the parents in our community for being so cooperative in this very important concern, knowing that Children are one of the most vulnerable sector in our society.

Have a nice day everyone.
