Looking for true love?
Many of us grew up watching romantic movies where sex was described as the ultimate type of love. We were told that this type of love offers a feeling of completion, we were told that our lives will always be empty unless we have this type of love.
We search, yearn for this type of love, but most of us do not understand what we are looking for?
1. Agape type of love is use to describe God's universal love, it is the love we feel for one another, the planet and the universe. Agape is very similar to how we would describe unconditional love, which is the life force of God in the Universe. On an energetic level, Agape flows from God's heart to our hearts, representing equality and balance, a sense of fulfillment, completeness. We attain Agape love through prayer, meditation in God's word, spending time with God, strengthening our spiritual connection. Agape Love is the stuff that holds a marriage—and a family—together through all kinds of seasons. It’s the selfless, unconditional type of love that helps people to forgive one another, to respect one another, and to serve one another, day in and day out. Unfortunately, many modern couples think that when physical attraction is lagging, there’s nothing left to bind a marriage together. But agape love is the glue that keeps your relationship intact while you rehabilitate other areas that need work. 1 Corinthians 13:4-13New International Version (NIV)4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. 8 Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. 9 For we know in part and we prophesy in part, 10 but when completeness comes, what is in part disappears. 11 When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me. 12 For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known. 13 And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.
2. Philia: is used to describe the love for friends, it is a feeling of companionship or friendship.
3. Eros type is used to describing sexual love or feeling a sexual attraction towards another person. It is a purely physical type of love. The flesh is involved in bringing pleasure and passion. This type of love can vary in intensity and can also fade away, which is why a relationships built only on this type of love tend not to last, because it is playful, uncommitted, which is all about seeking pleasure and having fun. It includes flirting, seducing or having sexual experiences without any feelings of commitment or attachment.
In reality, there is only one kind of love that emanates from God to his whole creation, but according to some there are as many as seven different ways to define love, making it a bit more complicated, but
Love itself is not complicated, it is all the other stuff that we add that gives love a bad name.
