How To Withdrawal Your Steem: Steemit Getting Started Guide

in #steemit-guides10 years ago (edited)

This Guide will teach you how to use @blocktrades and a wallet service to withdrawal your Steem.

Many people new to Steemit are new to the crypto world alltogether. This guide is aimed at getting someone who has no knowledge of Crypto currency and simply wants to either hold on to their money in BTC (Bitcoin) or make a withdrawal in a non-virutal currency (US dollar, CAD, GBP, etc).

I use Quadriga and recommend them to everyone who needs a wallet. They are based in Canada and have a variety of options to withdaw funds. Most other wallets work in a similar fashion. If you decide you want to follow these instructions and setup with Quadriga - please click on the link here so I get credit! Otherwise feel free to apply these concept to a wallet provider of your choice.

Step 1

Go to the QuadrigaCX website by clicking here. Once you arrive at their site you will be presented with two orange boxes in the top right corner. One box is to register the other is to Login. If you do not have an account click on the "Register Now" button and follow the registration path until you are brought to the login page. If you have a Quadriga account please click on "Login".

Step 2

You will be asked for your Client ID and password. You should have your Client ID from the registration process - if not check your email. After you have entered your "Client ID" and "Password" click on Login.

Step 3

You will be presented with the Quadriga dashboard. Underlined in yellow is the Bitcoin balance which is currently at 0. Click on the green "Fund" button that is circled in yellow below.

Step 4

After you click the fund button you will see a page that says "XBT Account Funding". This is where you will find your bitcoin wallet address. In the image below the address circled in yellow is the bitcoin address. If you use Quadriga yours will be in the exact same spot. It is a good idea to keep the address somewhere convenient - you will hopefully need it a lot. Double click on the address to highlight it, and right click then select copy. (Ctrl-C for those on Mac)

Step 5

Open another tab on your browser if you can (or use the main browser window) to go to http://blocktrades.us
Blocktrades will buy your Steem from you and give you Bitcoin that you can transfer to your Quadriga wallet (or other service). Select Steem in the first drop box, then Bitcoin in the next box. Enter how many STEEM you want to send - put your bicoin wallet address in the box - then click "Get a new Deposit address". The page will then look as it does below. Make sure to note that blocktrades is the steem account to send to. The other important number is the one underlined in yellow - this will go in the memo section on Steemit and if you enter it incorrectly you can lose your money! Make sure that you are using the code from this page and not your Steemit password or Bitcoin Wallet. THE MEMO IS ESSENTIAL TO THE TRANSFER WORKING.

Step 6

Navigate to your Steemit wallet (login to your account and select wallet from the navigation bar). Click on the button beside your Steem balance. The first option is the one circled in yellow - you want to "Transfer" your Steem.

Step 7

This window is where you transfer your Steem. Make sure blocktrades is the recipient, Steem is selected, the amount you want to send is typed correctly - and the memo is the memo blocktrades gave you in the previous step. Then hit submit.

#Step 8
You will be asked to authenticate by signing in again. If you have problems you will need to make sure you are using your Active Key (or original password).

Step 9

If you go back to blocktrades in your browser tab or at http://blocktrades.us - you will see at the very bottom your transaction in progress once they receive your Steem.

Step 10

If you go back to your Quadriga account you will see your transaction pending confirmations. You can find this at http://www.quadrigacx.com/fund/bitcoin

Step 11

Once Quadriga receives the 4 transactions (takes about 20-40 minutes) you will see the bicoin in your account to the right of the Quadriga Logo.

**Make sure that you use the correct memo key when sending to blocktrades and the correct wallet address. If you are distracted - do it another time. Make a series of smaller transfers instead of one big one. It is very easy to post the wrong key in the wrong box!! People lose money everyday not paying attention to transfers. THERE IS NO WAY TO GET YOUR MONEY BACK if you sent it to the wrong spot. This is an easy process, but it can potentially have disastrous consequences! Don't drink and transfer - don't transfer when you are tired - don't let me scare you from doing it! Start small and follow this guide in its entirety.

Thank you. This was informative.

I know someone out there is looking for this ;)

Does it work the same way for poloniex?

I am actually working on a separate post for poloniex. The transfer process is exactly the same except you send it to a user "poloniex" and the memo is different obviously (poloniex gives it to you). Poloniex is an exchange - I dont know how familiar you are with crypto - but exchanges tend to be places you want to get in and out of relatively quickly (in case of a hack). I am going to give a detailed overview of it this week since they do trade Steem and the Steem Backed Dollar - and provide a gateway to other "alt coins" for those interested.

Cool, thanks :)

another clear set of instructions even I can understand :)
