Fork Me! Might Steem be a suitable home for anarcho-socialists after all?

View this post on Hive: Fork Me! Might Steem be a suitable home for anarcho-socialists after all?

I've moved to Hive, along with most other people, following Justin Sun's takeover of Steem in the Spring of 2020. I believe hive is a lot more decentralised than Steem!

Sort:

If a perceived threat is all it takes that's not something I want to have large sums of money in.

For me it isn't about rich/poor or perception. The truth is money moves. One can not control distribution.

We had a ticking time bomb, most knew it.. in regards to SteemIt Inc's stake they knew it when they bought, earned or held, yet I see very few taking personal responsibility for their own investment choices.

To take sudden action in this moment with a small group of people (yes stakeholders, but not all were consulted)

In any case, I can see why Tron's PR was frightening and created fear, but I do not agree with the manner, speed or actions taken.

My stake is small, I fully accept that.. I think there is very little fear they would freeze my stake or GMA's stake as Aggy points out. However, what about the next large stakeholder if they were perceived as a threat?

I don't think that will be a next large stakeholder after this. Not if that means an investor.

It's not exactly encouraging is it?!

Although good I say, I'd rather more decentralization than a handful of crypto millionaires who got lucky with BTC in the mid 2010s.

It's getting that tricky balance between investment and the potential rise of the token or it being a minor satoshi hobby token. I'm fine with the latter actually but it would be nice if their was interest in steem investment. I would like to retire off it one day :0)

I treat it more as a long term investment, although I can't ever imagine chasing anything out.

I really should start cashing in my SBD earnings, that feels rational ATM.

The way things are going Steem might one day be worth the equivalent of Tesco reward points.

Long term is how I see it too. I would like it to grow over the long term though!

It is almost a duty to cash out the SBD, :O)

I bloody hope we get to be worth more than Tesco reward points!

I think this is an extreme case, and if Agro is speaking for the majority (although not Bernie judging by his DVs, then again I've never been clear what Bernie stands for exactly TBH) then it probably wouldn't happen to someone who bought their stake on the open-market, rather than a behind closed doors ninja-mined one.

Although it could.

this is a key point.... It probably wouldn't.

and before a couple of weeks ago, I would have thought it wouldn't.

"Although it could" is what bothers me more than the details, personalities, etc.

I think the sheer confusion and contradictions around public statements were enough, never mind any deliberate intention. Whether statements were intended to obscure or whether they were made in genuine ignorance, neither option is reassuring.
I wasn't impressed with the AMA, from the lack of planning, preparation and structure to the oh dear my laptop is running out of charge.
Although, like your left-green love-in, it does have its comical aspects.

if you don't do as the witnesses want, then we'll freeze your assets.

That's scary, and that screams centralization to me. I don't like Sun at all and consider his shitty ideas regarding a potential Steem Tron as being a lack of respect towards us, as a decentralized blockchain. You can't simply come and buy a ninja mined stake, which should have been forked for long time ago and change whatever the fuck you consider.

For that regard, yeah, take Steemit out of the equation in deciding Steem's faith. I don't understand why witnesses haven't done that years ago, when they realized that the funds weren't used for developments.

I guess they weren't threatened by some guy kicking them out and the milking was good. I assume that it Sun could accomplish his plans there wouldn't be any need for witnesses, hence their reactions.

Overall the fork is somehow self explanatory, but still...the witnesses could have done that many years ago. It's all about money in here, as pretty much everywhere, and once your income is threatened you react.

That's how I see witnesses reaction, but I kinda of support it. Instead of one shithead doing whatever wants with a good working project, better a group of people, that mostly care for themselves to be honest, that still take in account the community for the future of Steem.

I wished someone else would buy Steemit. Someone like Elon Musk for example... but yeah, Justin had the money and the will... Great post by the way, and definitely deserves tons of upvotes and resteems.

Hey cheers, I think I actually agree with everything you say.

I'm sure the witnesses are acting in the interests of their wealth. Reminds of the whole Adam Smith and the invisible hand argument. Maybe this is as good as it gets!
