Stop: And Try Being Present with Yourself
Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy is a form of therapeutic touch for healing trauma. That may sound a bit wishy washy, as in how is that supposed to work? Our human bodies are actually capable of the most incredible feats of healing and has perceptual abilities that defy logic and bypass language. There is a mechanism which is responsible for cell division, a drive, an underlying rhythm to things. When animals get hurt, or experience trauma they will retreat and find a safe space. What happens is something special is that their bodies start shaking and shaking!! A hurt animal will shake and shake and then suddenly just get up like nothing happened and go on it's way. This shaking is the autonomic nervous system releasing the accumulated trauma of the event!! Miraculous! The body has it's own intelligence. Human beings have the same mechanism however due to our social conditioning, it get's stuck. We rarely are present enough with ourselves to allow our bodies to go into deep process and work on and resolve accumulated trauma. As such we are masters at 'checking out' or dissociation. Stopping and being present with ones self is actually one of the most challenging things to do. Often when we meditate we try and do something. Stop our thoughts, or sit uncomfortably, thinking there's some 'goal' to reach. That could not be further from the truth. Meditation is simply about allowing. Acceptance. Non resistance. Accepting yourself as you are without wanting or needing to change anything. Simply observing your thoughts come and go like a movie, listening to them like you would music. Remember, the spaces between sounds are just as important as the sounds themselves....
