Cost Units

Cost unit is a quantitative unit of product or service or time in relation to which costs are ascertained or expressed. Costs unit differ from industry to industry. The unit selected should be the most natural to the business and accepted to all concerned. Therefore, utmost care should be taken while selecting cost units. It should neither too small nor too large. If unit is too large, significant costs trends may pass unoticed, due to averaging of cost.
