NYTimes: Secret Backdoor in Some U.S. Phones Sent Data to China, Analysts Say

in #news8 years ago (edited)

Security firm, Kryptowire, discovered that android phones running the Adups backdoor sent information to a Chinese server including messages, contact lists, call logs, and other data. The software manufacturer says its software runs on 700 million devices. 120 thousand phones manufactured by American manufacturer, BLU Products, were effected. It is not clear whether this was part of Chinese intelligence gathering or data collection for advertising purposes.

Thanks for the heads up. I'm not a fan of either of those motives... People keep so much info on their phones. Scary.

You're welcome. It is scary. I'm pretty technical, but being certain of the privacy of every device and app that I use is still an intractable problem.

Just got to love the "lovely side" of an interconnected world.
